Had the car serviced (rear brakes and the software upgrade) and it came back again with the situation in which the Mode button switches incorrectly. Previously, if I had Presets selected in the radio -- so that if it came up on iDrive it showed the presets list, or if I rolled the thumbwheel it scrolled through the Presets in the driver's display -- and I turned the car off, when I came back when Mode brought up Radio, it was to the Presets. Now, as after previous service, it always brings up Radio to FM vice Presets when I return to the car even if I left it in Presets.

After previous service this just magically went away several days later and it started behaving like it had before. So far no dice this time after about ten days. Wondering if it wasn't so much magic last time and I did something that forced it back to remembering. I can't for the life of me figure out a selection, a pattern of leaving it in a certain mode, etc. that corrects it.

Anyone encounter this and crack the code for getting it to remember Presets mode of Radio?

Yes, I had the SIB24-02-12 done last week and it changed how the mode button and presets work just as you described.

In order to have the thumb wheel just do my presets, I have to punch the radio button on Idrive each time I start the car. I don't know why they chose to "fix" something that wasn't broken with that update.

This situation corrected itself two days ago. I can't for the life of me identify anything I did that was different than what I've been doing the last couple of months. It now, as before, remembers that I had the radio set to "Presets" when I return to the car. I imagine I must have done something differently to prompt the change, but I haven't even the slightest idea what.
