How reliable is this model of the x3

Any common problems like valve cover gasket? Is the engine undersized? Any timing chain issues? Any cooling system issues? Trannsmission?

Trying to see if there are any major issues to stay away from for this model and years 2015-2017

Thanks

Stick with a car with a 6 cylinder engine - you'll still have nagging issues with the leaking German gaskets (oil filter housing, valve cover, etc.), and water pumps have limited life but beyond that you're in pretty good shape.

Which model/year of the 3 series has the 6 cylinder engine?

All do. There was a 28i (4 cylinder) and 35i (6 cylinder). The 4 is not really an issue after 2015. There are lots of them out there humming along. But a 6 will be smoother and more powerful.

My crystal ball is really failing me this morning. Which engine? Thi is an international forum. There are 9 different engines offered on the F25 with 9 completely different sets of issues.

I personally would not buy an N20 X3. They are borderline OK in a 1, 2 or 3 series. They're not a great engine to start with and an X3 is too much for them IMO. You only need to look through the first few pages of this forum to surely be scared off of the idea.

Comment by an F30 328i owner "Changed mine at 60k. At 110k had a failure. Same outcome as this" Priceless - Go BMW

So grabbed two random models from the list above, besides the X3, and both were affected.....I'm sure we could work though the list..... yep PRICELESS

Yep it gets worse. No way in hell would I buy a 5 series or an X5 with an N20.

It would have been nice if BMW changed to the B series engines in the later F25 models.

My wife has an M40i....the B58 is a great engine (so far).

I like the N20...again its very well designed....but like many BMW's these days (perhaps manufacturers in general)....stuffed full of likely chinese plastic....

If this was part of a quest to save fuel, then it came at a great cost, to their reputation and bottom line....and in particular the customers, who bought models, unknowingly, filled with all this junk (in this case, the guiides or perhaps even the chain itelf).

We havent been affected (Yet)...don't drive eco, don't tune, and over maintain...buts thats no solice here.....and its not just X3s.
