X3 width when mirrors are folded
Loitering here from over on F30 section
Been looking at an X3 to replace it, anyone know what the width of the X3 is when mirrors are folded in is ? Or maybe measuring what the reduction is when one is fully open to folded and I can work rest out ? Cheers Rob

rob, as can be seen from data supplied by Peter, max width is 2089 - I take it you have converted to mm?
Max body width seem to be 1861, i.e. mirrors are 115 mm each. My problem is a 2200 mm wide garage opening, which I have to attack at an angel Learned to do it wihout folding. If coming straight on and garage opening 2000 mm, you should have no problem - if foldable mirrors. |

Thanks guys, bit confused, may be me after a long day at work
When folded the mirrors still stick out further than the widest part of the body ? Just need to get it right as I test drove today and I liked it, definitely in the running as a possible choice. of and its a 2015 X3, not sure when they changed. Appreciate all replies too, maybe I'll be posting on this forum soon.

I believe Max got it right- it is the LH mirror, which is the problem - we are talking UK?
It is a jolly good problem, we need to be creative here: - call Family to come out and fold left mirror? -install a slide-bar on mirror, which allow garage post to automatically fold mirror without damage? -attach a wire to mirror to allow for folding of mirror from drivers seat? -adjust garage post to allow for mirrors. Improves ventilation. |

Was hoping that just folding one in might give 'her' some margin for error ! from what could be an expensive mistake ! Cheers Rob

Bit of an update so its recorded on the thread for possble same question in future.
Looking at one in the works car park today it looks like once the miror is folded it is in fact in line with the widest part of the car which is at the rear of the car. Makes sense with the info that BMW supply - diagrams earlier in thread. Wonder if you owners agree ?

I guess she will have to practice few times with your guidance. maybe fold drivers mirror since she may have that angle cover, leave passanger unfold so she can see. just back it in reverse into garage. |

Sigh
You asked the width. Some people showed specs for the body width and whole car width with the mirrors... That is not enough. As seen on Max Well pictures, the width of the car with the mirrors folded is still larger than the body of the car without the mirrors. My point is, with mirrors folded, the car width will be somewhere halfway between body width, and width with mirrors fully extended. When folded, the mirrors don't "vanish" (they don't disappear, they're still there and take up *******, so it's really simplistic to come here and say "look at factory specs". Max Well did a great job showing that. But the overall width with mirrors folded is up to anyone's guess without an actual measurement. This is why I said it's somewhere in between. Hope this clarifies. Cheers |

Could this be M sport vs other ? I am grateful for all help, I thanked Max who took time to do photos, top guy ! See what you think looking from rear of yours ? I'm sorry if I'm boring you with the 'sigh' I just need to be sure before I spend £40K on a car that might not fit in my garage. Cheers
