Can't fix "/!\ Trunk Open!" warning

Hey all!

I've been trying isolate an issue with my back hatch for weeks and hope someone here has some input.

Here's what I've done so far:

1) Opened it and closed it again.
2) Checked the wire looms on either side of the hatch lid for fraying.
3) Replaced the trunk lid handle and switch (handle was cracked, anyway).
4) Pulled the ground on the battery and let it discharge an hour.

The only think I haven't done that I can think of is replace the latch switch/actuator at the bottom but it's ~$105 and seems to function as it should. The trunk lights go out when hatch lid is closed and it unlocks normally.

Anyone have a clue of where to look next?

Hi Doc, have you been able to resolve your problem? I am having the exact same issue and am also thinking it might be the latch...

Yep, it's the latch. Save yourself a diagnostic fee and go on one of the BMW parts wholesale sites, shouldn't be any more than $125. It's only a 30 minute job if you take your time.

Just looked up the part number and this is the one. It used to just be called the "latch" per the invoice in my email but now it's called the actuator motor.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the quick response.

Also do you mind me asking how easy/difficult was it to replace?
