I have a 2.0d with 17" non runflats on order. I am considering using something like the following (there are companies who offer a mobile service, but it looks pretty easy to put in):

This will prevent the majority of punctures for a pretty small initial outlay. I understand that the UK X3s don't have the tyre pressure sensors in the valve, so no chance of wrecking them fitting it.

Interesting, the dealer indicated that the US modeled X3 35i M tires (which are standard) will likely only last 24 months. Not sure if this is true, and obviously has much to do with drive mode.

Is there such thing as a HIGH PERFORMANCE RFT for when I need to replace the tires?

Its about mileage more than its about time . if you get 20K-25K miles out of your OE tires that would be pretty good in my experience. Summer tires are soft and generally wear out faster than All Seasons, but they perform better. I have no idea how the Goodyear LS2's {on most US bound M Sports} are for longevity.

Pirelli PZeroes are a very high performance summer tire that used to show up on the X3 with the !9" staggered wheels but I think this is no longer an option to get the staggered set up.

If you do summer and winter tires it will make both sets feel like they've lasted longer.
