2014 X3 30D From India

Hey Guys,

Here is my 2014 X3 30d. You must be wondering how it is a 2014 car and pre-lci. Well the LCI was only released here about 6 months after you guys got it, and with the LCI only the 20d engine was offered here. So I jumped at the chance to own a 30d, mine is probably the last one assembled in India.

Another interesting fact, India I believe, is the only place outside of Spartanburg where BMW X cars are assembled (X1, X3, X5).

My car is decently loaded in terms of features (Its gotta be, the damn thing cost me more than an M5 would in the US of A). Its got the Nav professional, 18" wheels, Panoramic roof, Dynamic Damping, Nevada leather amongst other things.

What I would have really liked on the car, which aren't available here is the sport auto, the sport seats and the adaptive xenons (have to make do with the normal ones).

I'm hoping the recently released powerkit is available for pre LCIs too, that is one thing that is going to be great going by my experience of the power kit on my 320d.

Here are some pics of the car when I just got it. The last few pics show the wheels painted in gloss black, and the gloss black grilles. Sorry about those pictures being crappy quality. Let me know what you guys think, also any suggestions on what to do next?

I miss the Red brown interior, that's was my best color seat combo and could not order it. Maybe upgrade sound if you didn't get the HIFI or HK option. Curious how much in USD was this spec in India?

If you go to http://www.bmw.co.in/ you can configure your own and see the prices/options available on the subcontinent

This interior colour is perfect. Its not as loud as coral red, but still sporty enough. I have the hifi sound, not the HK. Frankly its not that bad at all. This spec costs about $116k, but since the LCI was just around the corner a got a handsome discount, and then registered the car in a city where road tax is less I paid about $100k. Good savings.

There are no options as such, they release 3-4 variants of each car with options standard on them. Also the prices in the configurator are before road tax, etc. Those add about 20% or so more to the price.

Then you good on options price as expected, but no X4 on the website yet.

Thank you. Its actually great for Mumbai, much more practical than my E90. It tackles Mumbais crappy roads well, and is enough fun for when I'm on the good roads. Also its not too big to drive in the city.

It must be from the door beadings. I did face a creaking sound. I bought Gummi Pfedge, which is a lubricating liquid and applied it on on the door beadings and the metal part of the body they touch. No noise since.

X3s are assembled in Chennai, India from kits shipped from the US. The same is done in a few other countries. There are huge tax savings achieved in some countries by having the final assembly done locally, rather than having a competed vehicle imported.

Many manufacturers do the same. It's called a CKD - Complete Knock Down - kit. Sometimes the complete vehicle is shipped in in pieces, and sometimes some of the parts are sourced locally. I know that F25 CKD kits are also assembled in Malaysia. The previous generation X3 was assembled in India, Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, And Egypt. I don't know if F25 CKD kits are being assembled in all of those countries.

Yes it was definitely assembled here. Had it been imported the duties would have been much higher. The last few digits of the vin are ln71225 if you wanna check it out.

Exactly. A CKD is how most of the cars are done here, because if a car is fully imported the duties go up to 160% or some rubbish like that.

Guys I've noticed my temperature gauge now settles at a quarter, and doesn't go higher even in pretty hot weather (36 celsius). I could have sworn when I got the car the gauge used to go to the halfway mark. Am I crazy or is there another explanation?

Strange...
This car is my first with this gauge displaying oil temperature, not water.
In the middle I have value 100 celsious degrees. We have winter time here, so normally I see its near by 100. Expect will go over later by summer time.

thank you for explanation. Just wondering about this:
My X3 2011 is VIN L546395, from i can clearly see assembly plant Spartanburg.
My friend's X3 2013 is VIN 0F09094 and if you decode, there is not visible assembly plant name. Why??

I don't know. If his full VIN starts with 5x then it was manufactured in North America, which would be Spartanburg for F25s.
