Comfort Access----Really Comfortable and Accessible?

I had a 2008 Opel in Europe with a similar functionality as the comfort access on the X3.
So you had to touch the handles for open and close (lock and unlock).
With the X3 though I find it not very practical as sometimes it doesn't work nor detect. You sometimes have to persist on it or do it a couple of times before you can lock it. The unlocking is OK. The locking is a bit challenging. Sometime when I try to lock it I hear a clicking sound at the rear right passenger side of the car somewhere where I thought that the car is trying to lock, but that door is open. So I check but the door was properly shut. I reopened the door and closed it back again, tried the locking and this time it actually locked. It happened a couple of times though.
Only when it beeps, it shows that it has been locked ofcourse.
Now I haven't had time to drive the car though since the day I picked it up... (), but I'll give it some more try before I'm certain...
Is this a problem or a typical comfort access thing?

I find there is the occasional time it will "misfire" and require a second pull to open; but mostly it works as designed and works quickly. Live with it a while longer before assuming something may be not working correctly.

I love it, and my wife loves it even more.
Not having to fish the keys out of her purse is more than worth the price.

I noticed it does not work well when I have my iPhone in the same hand/pocket as the remote. I also get the "misfires" every once in a while. Overall, I am glad I have it.

Mine was working about half the time but it was due to the fact my cell phone was too close to the key fob and it was causing interference. That might be your problem too.

I find that tapping to lock works every time - touch the spot seemed to sometimes miss.
Perhaps it is the speed of change of capacitance or whatever that triggers the lock.
Opening seems to work without problem.

On mine the louder right rear looking sound is the gas filler door. The "sweet spot" for locking is slightly forward of the raised bumps. System works great. Love it!

Unlocking the car works great, the locking of the door seems very difficult and random. I though it was just me not knowing just how to really work it.

it works quite well for me. There is one thing I don't like on the X3 comfort access. All 4 doors should have it. I very often open the rear passenger side door to throw my bag in the back seat. It is a pain to unlock it by touching the drivers door, THEN open the rear door. I am pretty sure that in my Dad's 2011 X5, all 4 doors have comfort access.

I agree it would be nice if the rear doors had the sensors too, but I really don’t find it much of a hardship to grab the driver’s handle and then open the rear door to dump my stuff on the back seat. It’s more convenient IMO than getting the key fob out and unlocking that way.

My son is 3.5 years old and he has already learned how to use the access comfort (without us even teaching him!!), so I wouldn't imagine if adding the rear CA would do me any good... He's gonna be all over the place!!!

Yes, our X5 has it on all four doors. Sure, it's nice - but I'm really not feeling inconvinienced by the X3 having it on only the front. Also, keep in mind that the X5 CA option is $1,000 versus the X3 at $500. So, it's not like they threw that in....
