First BMW revealed the upcoming BMW X4 in concept form, then came the photoshops of what it could look like in various colors, and now in the next stage of online followship of the new BMW, come the very first prototypes of the production version.

Just like the bigger siblings in the BMW X family, the BMW X5/X6, the BMW X4 will be closely paired with the X3 in both looks and underlying architecture. The styling is where the real differences seem to be. And thankfully, it seems the production X4 will stay true to the path laid out by the concept car. The fastback proportions matched with the deep sculpture lines of the X3 work extremely well, I suppose its because the tighter and form fitting rear end accentuates the rear arches more then the X3 can do with its boxy rear. The swooping rear end design really fits this size of vehicle perfectly and we expect this to be a very attractive and very unique car when its out on the road.

BMW also seems to be keeping the concept vehicles new headlight design for the production form. BMW has strategically placed its headlight camo in a straight horizontal line so that it would look like the current X3's headlight design, but I believe this is done on purpose to hide the headlight sculpturing.

The model seen here appears to be an X4 in Alpine White and judging by the smallish tailpipes, most likely an xDrive28i, a motor which is wonderfully suited to the X3.

As with the X3, the X4 will be produced in Spartanburg and given the production finished look of this car, they should be rolling off the lines very soon hopefully, expect some time in early 2014.

The headlights make me think they are putting the amber reflectors in the headlamp housing like the X3 and not in the bumper.

If so that sucks

I think this may actually work out pretty well. I don't see the concept headlight's design though. It looks like they will do the same thing as the 4 coupe concept to production 4 coupe and have more traditional style halo rings.

Maybe. I was going to say: 5GT gets re-badged and maybe shrunken.

It's being created for folks who years ago would have bought Citroën DS. (http://www.carstyling.ru/resources/c...en_ds19_01.jpg)

This will sell like hot cakes imo.
I just want a more premium interiour, as the X3 is pretty boring.
The X4 should at least enjoy some fresh LCI details from the X3!

Damn, I think BMW is really over-doing it with all of these vehicles.

Liking the proportions a lot more than the X6. The design seems to work much better in a smaller shell/size.

When BMW will stop producing cars with single side exhaust?

Dual side exhaust should be standard on all new BMW's

If you like the dynamics of an SUV but don't like its practicality, and you like the practicality of a coupe but don't like its dynamics, here is the ride for you.

This has got to be the sexiest looking automobile. Loving those wheels. More wheel gap is good for off-roading too. Looking forward to an X2 and an X8 in the near future. Thank you BMW!

It's getting closer and closer. Let's see how much is lost in translation from concept to production. Optional full LED headlights please.

Yeah those wheels are so tiny.

??? You sound like youre an advertisement for bmw. Sorry but this idea is not in the least bit evolutionary, it is actually further saturating the market. Instead of making vehicles like this how about a serious off road suv? This one looks barely capable of even a gravel road. And those tiny rims are laughable

Lol I agree with u.

Of course that's what all the critics said about the x6. Which has turned out to be a huge cash cow for BMW. Expect this car to pull the same demographic albeit in a lower price range. They will move more of these and make a crap load off of them with almost $0 R/D investment.
