How do I get rid of reverse lock out...?

Fellow Members,

I've finally found my one and only real/major annoyance with the current X3.

How do I stop the car from abruptly stopping when I open the driver side door to back up to see where I'm going?

This is a huge issue for me. I have four other vehicles that don't do this.

I always open my door, just a bit to park correctly, and to see where I'm going.

Does this not bother anyone else? Can I defeat this safety/legal/civil annoyance? I'm sure some lawsuit caused this stupid safety feature.

Can anyone offer a fix? My First Gen X3 (2006) did not have this issue.

Tks/Cheers,

B

I agree it's annoying. Post the question on the coding made easy thread if you are interested to see if anyone has a coding solution. It's nothing that you can do in the normal settings

this is a common complaint, there has been prior listings. Its done so people dont try and step out and the car rolls and they get their leg trapped. Think it doesnt happen? When I was working lots of years ago I got a call of a guy trapped in a field. Got over their and this old guy has a farm and is drivning around with the door open and his leg hanging out and the door hits a stump. Door closes on his leg. Literally, think it couldnt be. I go there and half his leg is hanging out the bottom of the closed door. Fire dept got their and pryed the door open, he went to the hospital and it was about a month later thye couldnt save his leg and had to cut it off. thats why, unbelievable but I saw it.

Rear view camera is less expensive than hospital fees and insurance premiums.

Test this yesterday. It was happy for me to reverse (and go forward) with the door open. I did still have the seatbelt on.

I assume you don't have the top down view, because I have no reason to open the door and check my parking while using that view.

I thought I would test this this morning while reversing out of my driveway.

I could drive backwards with the door open BUT only with the seatbelt on.

If the seatbelt was NOTon and the door was open then the following warning came up and the car put the brakes on!!

This is an European model, Belgium.

Mine does stop if the doors are not shut and latched. I was backing out of a shopping mall spot when it felt like I hit something - nothing there that could see. Didn't have seatbelt fastened.

I coded this by disabling the window safety feature (windows roll up when door is opened). Don't ask me why or how the two are connected, but it has worked on the F25, F13, F02 so far. 2012 and newer.
