Web Radio

Never bothered with the DAB option as I ordered BMW Apps so knew I had the Web Radio option and absoloutly loving it.

What stations not local to you do you now listen to? My wife likes Addicted to dance in Chicago and I'm partial to listening to The Bone in Florida, although its a bit wierd listening to trafic reports from Tampa Bay when I'm driving along the M6 near Walsall !!!

The guy who cleaned my car was also impressed that he could hear a station from his homeland Iran!!!

I listen to Radio St Barth. It helps to take the chill out of a cold Winter morning.

I've gone for this combo as well- how reliable do you find it on the move? Especially at speed. I've always found cellular data on the move (trains, cars on the motorway) to be hit and miss as 3G drops in and out.

Although maybe that's a Faraday effect that would be improved by the cars external antenna.

Web radio stations 'transmit' with different speed requirements - that is download speed not F25 speed You might find an improvement, if you have problems, by looking on a webpage in your home/office first of the radio station you want to 'tune in', these homepages ofter quote the download speeds required. 256 or 512 are usual, but I have seen higher so you could choose a 256 station to listen too and it might make a difference on the move. My experience is based on web radio via fixed internet only at home via 24mB service.

Ill be honest I've only ever dropped out a few times as the 3G coverage on my daily routes is pretty good.

I did pay for DAB but I have used web radio on BMW Apps a fair bit and I'm impressed with the coverage. I don't use it enough to know if it's a suitable replacement for DAB (which I use all the time for 5live) but I guess that depends on the network and where you are normally. Not gone international yet but like some of stations you can't get on DAB like MoS

Depends on the stream rate of the station you are listening to. As a guide...

Quote:
32Kbps = 4KB/s = 12MB/hour
64Kbps = 8KB/s = 23MB/hour
128Kbps = 16KB/s = 57MB/hour
http://www.avforums.com/forums/strea...idth-used.html

So you may have to be a bit careful if you use it frequently and only have 0.5GB or 1GB monthly allowance

I hv downloaded BMW Connected app from iPhone App Store and listen to Web Radio through Bluetooth. I enjoy German channels. I had picked up German language about 25 years ago and advertisements on web radio refresh my knowledge. I do not have BMW Apps option though.

You only need to listen to ABS80's for a hour or so and the play list repeats, repeats anyway.....

If anyone has an unlimited data plan, MOG, while a bit expensive at $9.99/mo, is exceptional. Audio quality is very good, and it's completely integrated in iDrive. Very cool.

+1
MOG is on demand music, so it is like having a jukebox in your car. You simply search for an artist or song and it is ready to play. In some ways it is better than pandora, because you can choose what you want to listen to. The interface with iDrive is top notch. I hadn't heard of it before I bought my X3, but now I love it.

My plan is unlimited too but 02 keep reminding me that their unlimited is subject to fair usage policy which is 1gb a month.... It's an ongoing battle I have as unlimited shouldn't be capped

Doesn't anyone listen to XM? I've been listening to that for 8 years (or CD's)but feel the need to switch. I have Spotify loaded at work and home and it seems like it's similar to MOG from what I just read. I'll probably set up pandora at some point. So these initials are new to me. What is MOG, DAB and MoS? I have BMW Apps ordered so will i be able to use these? Thanks.

DAB is similar to HD Radio in the US. It is available in Canada, Europe, Australia, and several other countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Audio_Broadcasting

MOG you can check out in the App Store.
