Possible Steering Rack Failure?

Bit concerning bearing in mind my X3 is only 2.5 months old and less than 4000 miles but yesterday I heard a noise from the steering wheel when going around a roundabout. Thought nothing of it and everything seemed okay. Later in the day I went out and noticed that I get resistance when turning the steering wheel either left or right and then I pass the point of resistance I get 2 clicks, like I say it happens in either direction - any ideas?

I have just returned from holiday and done 500 miles and everything was fine - have not hit any potholes etc so am unsure what has happened. Vehicle is booked in with dealer in 3 days time for the diesel smell coming through the airvents to be looked at (although sods law the last 2 weeks it has seemed fine), one of the rear boot struts which creaks when operating and also the front wheel seems to judder when going over small bumps such as cat eyes in the road - I have VDC so not sure if it related to that. Is it wise to use the vehicle with the steering issue for the next 3 days or should I call BMW Assist to investigate?

I'd be surprised - and disappointed - if it was the steering rack. As far as I was aware this was only a problem with the early F25s with a redesigned steering rack being used from early-mid 2013 production.

With service already booked I'd wait to see what BMW have to say.

X3 been with BMW and they have carried out thorough investigation and found no fault. Prior to taking it in I have driven around 200 mile since it happened and not had any other issue - mystery!
