In, But Not IN My Hands!

Good news, car is in. Bad news, I wasn't ready for it. It came so fast, I hadn't got my financing together yet and lo and behold, it came in on Monday. So, like a good owner I went down to visit my car at the dealership. Here's a couple photos I snapped of the car there. I'll add more obviously, when I get my darned hands on it. We're schedule for a Saturday pick-up. Probably could do it sooner, but my wife is traveling and I wanted her to be part of the experience.

I hope the pics posted...

it helps to take picts before they put the license plates on - saves photoshopping it out later. Beautiful X3! same thing happened to me - mine sat a few days til I got some financing finalized.

Yes, Beige Interior...

Yeah, it's the beige leather... and it seems to work well with the M-Sport anthracite headliner since the dash is black.

I try to stay busy and not think about it... but alas, here I am chatting it up.

It was hard not to just drive it away. I'll have all the financing in place today... but, now, want to make it an event my wife can enjoy on a day where we can cruise around town. Scheduled for 1 pm Saturday.

when you take delivery can you post picts of the Heads Up Display? that seems to be an option that isn't ordered all too often.

I have some pics of the HUD. I'll post them when I find them. Expect to see them tomorrow.

HUD

Sure, I'll get some nice photos of the HUD. To be honest I could have gone either way with that. But I've gotten a few speeding tickets and the idea of seeing the speed on the windshield I thought might help slow me down a tad.

I test drove an X3 (took it home to show my wife) and the one I drove had the HUD. Had I not seen it, I might not have gotten it.

Because you can turn it on or off and dim or brighten to your comfort level I liked it. One bad thing that I've not yet been able to confirm is if you wear polarized lenses (who doesn't anymore) you might have a hard time seeing the display.

I'll let you know.

With regards to the polarized lenses, the only instances I've heard where people cannot see the HUD with them on are after windshield replacements. There's a special windshield for the HUD (since the full-color version was released on the F01 7-series in 2009), which is why it costs $1,300 and not $600. This windshield is designed to counteract the detrimental effects of wearing polarized sunglasses. Unless BMW is full of it, you should be fine.

Thanks Judd

Whoa. Thanks for the info Judd. I would never had though the windshield would be paired to the HUD mechanics. Makes sense though.

Congrats to your new car! It looks really great! Is it possible to take some close up pictures of the high gloss panel parts after your delivery. Would really appreciate that, have never seen that before, just read about it. In Sweden you can choose either the "old" matte or the new high gloss for your 2012 X3.

I wasn't aware that was an option... but now that you mention it, when I sat in it for a minute the other day, I did notice that the instrument panel was gloss black. I thought to myself, normally that would be wood on an upgraded vehicle (like a 6 or 7 series).

I wonder if the gloss was part of the M-Sport package or one of the other packages...

It is an option you need to specify I have it on my order.

Couple more photos... still haven't taken possession!

Here ya go Woody... A couple photos of the high gloss (as I understand it, high gloss on the dash is standard on US model)??

Also, in case anyone purchased or thinking about beige with Sport or M-Sport there's a couple photos with the Anthracite (black) headliner. One shows that the cargo cover is black as well (rather than beige). What would be interesting to know is if you don't get Sport or M-Sport, is the entire cargo area beige?

One last photo of the iPhone 4 adapter.

Wasn't able to get the HUD photos yet.

Looks nice. Make sure to keep that high-gloss finish clean. Don't let too much dust accumulate, otherwise it will bake in the sun and get all flecked and scratchy.

HUD Pics

They're not great, but they'll have to do. I took them with my iPhone, so the quality just doesn't do the HUD graphics any justice.

Well, heck. BMW is full of it (at least what they told you or wrote). If you wear polarized sunglasses (I have Maui Jims) you can't see the HUD. I'll snap some photos when I get a chance.
