Question Back up camera looks very dim

I just bought a new 2018 X3 and brought it home this weekend.
Everything worked great all day on Saturday.
However, on Sunday, when my wife was backing out of the garage, she noticed that the rearview on the dash looked very dim. We can only see the trajectory lines clearly and the video is extremely dark as if the camera is going bad.

The only thing I had done was to set up the two keys for each of us and customized the settings in the menu.
So I tried resetting her profile and made sure all the vehicle settings were OK.
The rearview was still very dim - no change.

Then I took my key and tried it. when I put the car in reverse, the rearview was bright as it should be and everything looked normal.

Then I set up her profile in profile #3 to see if it was the profile #1 that was causing it. Sure enough, in her profile #3, the rearview was perfectly normal as well.

Therefore, I have narrowed down the problem to Profile #1. We won't be using it I guess and I will tell the service when I bring the car in for the next oil change.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with the profile? Or is it something else that is causing it?

Either there's a problem (take it to the dealer), or you tinted your windows.

Take it to the dealer. It sounds like something is wrong.

There is a brightness sensor inside, on the instrument display towards the upper-left. Some people with dark tint have had issues with the tint confusing the brightness sensor into thinking that it's dark outside. See this thread: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1473182

If one key works and the other doesn't how would the tint (if any) affect that?

Maybe the light on the backup camera isn't coming on. Not sure why it would effect one profile over the other.

I know making a dealership visit is a pain, but for what you paid for the new toy, you deserve to have it meet all of your expectations.

You can adjust the brightness of the camera image. So check the settings when the camera is on to see if it was changed unintentionally.

I would definitely check this. you can set the brightness independantly for the backup camera over and above the automatic dimming of the sensor. and a glitch could easily have set the setting to be uber dark.

it's at least worth looking at before doing a dreaded dealer dropoff.

Sounds like driver 1 dimmed the brightness setting, intentionally or unintentionally.

Why not try deleting the profile first, then re-do Profile and if the issue persists then head to the dealer

from the manual, this should be accessible from left pane (function bar) after pressing the camera button (panorama view).

Thumbs up Problem Solved!

Thank you!
That solved my problem.
My daughter must have touched it by accident.
Now the rearview is bright and clear!

I am aware of the left panel and it’s functions, however if you adjust for night
time viewing and do not readjust back for day time the screen will be too bright
during the day. Some posts suggest that the problem is only on white cars and
May be caused by glare from the white bumper tricking the camera!!

The setting may interact with the brightness level of the control panel. Although I'm not sure about this :
