Massive demand and they can only produce so many at a time. Also priority given to US orders, probably because it's the biggest single market but no-one knows for sure.

The fact that they are made in the US and have to be shipped to the UK and Europe probably only adds about 4-6 weeks in comparison to a US order.

All the ships carrying X3s sail right past the UK are first stop Bremerhaven in Germany which is fair enough I suppose

I rang up our dealer to add to the spec. I was worried that it would bump the delivery date but no.

Apparently, BMW are advising dealers to hold back on orders as they can't be honoured, sounds like a load of Melton Mowbray to me

Anyway, the spec (and its final!) is....

Space Grey X320d with Black Nevada leather
Auto (drove a manual and it was crying 'Auto!!!!')
Xenons
Prof Media
Streamline Alloys
Sports Seats
Heated Seats
Rev Camera and Top View
Electric Towbar
Panoramic Sunroof
5 years servicing

Dealer wouldn't add anything for free, not even mudflaps.

Look forward to getting the thing!

BMW UK are claiming that all 2.0d production is allocated. Presume that does not mean for ever (!!!) but clearly they have waiting list problems so are trying to manage expectations.

just tried to change my specs - this is response from dealer/BMW

"Due to the extremely well forward sold position of the new BMW X3 20d, production is totally full. This means that any specification changes made may significantly affect the delivery date - especially if these changes are requested close to the build date."

Are you guys getting options to go for the 3.0D?
I placed initial deposit for mine March last year with official launch details coming to Australia last October. Given build slot in April for Delivery in June.
Was able to add MSport option without change to the build date.

I ordered a 3.0d in Feb and currently due in Uk early Aug. Not changed any spec yet but can until June but as above late changes not advised as this can / can be used as an excuse to delay production.

UK dealers currently accepting orders for 2012 (not a typo).

Apparently the X5 once had a wait of nearly two years.

This really is the case. I called into the dealer where I placed my order tonight and said order today and it is a December delivery so I can well believe others have use up their entire 2011 allocation.

I think your dealer is wrong, many of us changed specs up until a certain current status change (unsure of ref number) which was only a few weeks before build - I would put money on the fact that you could make spec changes until end april.

My dealer called me for a week ago to ask me if I had wish to change anything before production in week 12. Dealers got a yellow light on their order system when the order have to be finale. And for me that happen 3 weeks before production. But an this is a But if for some reason one of the options you've have ordered later it's delayed due to subcontractors not able to keep up the demands then you can be in trouble. In Norway this happened with the auto open luggage compartment door, they had to wait to April production due to high demand of the auto opener.

Comment from dealer: I would advise you not to change the spec of your car as BMW have advised us that any spec changes on forward orders for the X3 will now significantly delay delivery

Perhaps you could call his bluff and change your order anyway. If it works, everyone's a winner. If your order gets delayed, at least you've helped all of the other members considering a change to their orders and taken one for the team
