Disconnect Rear Camera to repaint tailgate

Hi

My X3 rear tailgate came to grief when a garage door came down whilst it was up.

Apart from the repaint the dealer has said it will cost an additional $120.00 to re-code the computer as the rear camera has to be disconnected for the repaint, then re-connected and this will cause an error on the computer.

Is that correct ?? wouldn't the error go away when the camera is reconnected. Is it something I can resolve without another 120.00 cost..

Cheers...

One way to find out... But that would mean a trip to the dealer if coding WAS required.

So what happens when we replace the battery on an X3, does it need re-coding?

There is programming required when an X3's battery is replaced. Battery replacement is not a DIY job. The X3 must be "told" about the new battery. I don't know how involved the programming is.

Yep, I wonder if a OBD2 scanner could clear the codes.

In Ontario, there are now "drive clean emission" testing using requirements using the OBD2 port. If an error exists, the car will not pass and the car cannot be plated. Supposedly, it takes two weeks of driving after a battery change before the car can pass the emission testing using the OBD2.

Below is an extract from the manual.

I can't help feeling this is all getting too complex.
