Oil Change/Mileage

I have 2,500 miles on my 2015(1 1/2 months new) and the computer says that I should bring it in for an oil change in another 4k miles or 10/2015? I thought oil changes were every 10k miles not 6,500?

Chrissy, have you been having a little fun with your new X3? Maybe pushing it a bit at times, with shifts over 4K RPM? Or perhaps a lot of short trips?

Doesn't matter. CBS says that it is time, so you need to do it.

Hard numbers are one thing. Condition Based Service are another. A 3rd factor is time.

BMW is going to go with whichever of them comes up first.

My first oil change came up at 7800 miles.

I'm interested to hear when the first oil change was for other people's x3?

I just had my third oil change at about 43k. So roughly every 14k for me. With the new cars it is generally every 15k or 1 year (but can be less depending on driving habits).

There may be a software issue. I had a similar problem but with rear brake service. Sensor said to change pads but upon visual inspection it wasn't needed. A software update fixed the problem. No harm in going in to get it looked at under full warranty/maintenance right?

I did my first at 15K miles ~1 year and now I have 30K after 28 months and it says 1200 miles until next service, I already did my 2 year service.

I am not waiting for the lights - I did my first oil change at 2,000 miles and will do another at 4,500 miles. These engines are built with minuscule tolerances these days, but I have seen lots of metal shavings in the oil of new engines after only hundreds of miles. Also fitting a magnetic drain plug. Belt and suspenders? Maybe - but I sleep well at night. Turbos be turbos.
