Question M Sport Configuration Weirdness?

Even though I much prefer the 2016 X Line looks, I've finally decided that I can overlook that M Sport's #$#$#%! front end to get the sport seats. However, the BMWUSA build your own has some weirdness...

With the M Sport, it looks like you can have the Cold Weather Package OR the ACC Stop and Go plus Active Driving Assistant, but you can't have both. Is this a bug in the build your own configurator or some bizarre BMW marketing strategy? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Dan.

p.s. This problem does NOT exist with the XLine.

On European Configurators (Like the German one) you can add everything to an X3 M Sport except Park assistant...

Agree completely. After all it is only a computer program with a pretty front end.

From the ordering guide:

"ZMM cannot be ordered with ZCW and ZDB"

ZMM is M-Sport. ZCW is Cold Weather Package. ZDB is Driver's Assistance Plus.

My recollection is that it's a steering wheel limitation. You can't get an M steering wheel that accomodates both. Doesn't ZDB have Lane Departure Warning, which vibrates the steering wheel, while ZCW has the heated steering wheel?

You can order ZMM with ZDA and ZCW, you can order ZMM with ZDB (which automatically adds ZDA), or you can order ZMM with ZCW.

You may be able to add some of the components of ZDB to a build with ZDA and ZCW, but you can't add 5AS (Active Driving Assistant) or 5AT (ACC Stop & go with Active Driving Assistant.)

Likewise you may be able to add some components of ZCW to a build with ZDB, but you can't add 248 (heated steering wheel).

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the feedback. I took your advice and asked a dealer. And yes, 02420x3, you are correct. The ZCW package cannot be ordered with ZDB on an M Sport. The only option is heated seats and that's OK for me.

On a slightly different topic... BMW Northwest in Tacoma, WA had an MSport with DHP and I was able to drive it. DHP is excellent! Comfort mode gives you a nice smooth ride and Sport+ is major fun!

Even better, the M Sport in Space Gray looks very nice. Pictures don't do it justice. Now it's just a matter of choosing the interior color - black or saddle brown. Decisions, decisions...

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Regards,

Dan.

I can confirm that the M Sport in Space Grey looks nice. Here is a photo of my UK version (Sorry it is pre LCI).

Here it is with Saddle:

You can just see some Saddle through the windscreen:

Clive, Peter,

VERY nice! I'm beginning to think that Space Gray and M Sport are made for each other.

And Saddle Brown warms up the interior nicely. The one I drove had a black interior. It was good looking, but a bit sterile IMO. Unlike other lighter colors, where the dash is black plus the interior color, ithe Saddle Brown dash is a consistent black. The Saddle Brown interor with all black dash combo is very attractive to my eyes.

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi Dan,

I love Saddle, I find black rather dreary, Oyster was in my previous X3, it was good but after a while I felt it a bit anemic. Mocha is a great colour but I don't feel it goes with Space Grey. Mocha would be good with White. If there's a any downside to Saddle it's how it looks in bright sunlight. Here in the UK that's quite a rare phenomenon....the colour (white balance) of sun light can bring out a touch of orange or caramel with Saddle. You can see the effect in my photo above as there is some sun on the passenger seat and door. I'm totally fine with this but I wanted to mention it in case you're not. Probably the colour on the armrest is more what I'm describing.

Clive,

Hi. Here in the Seattle area, we have a lot of cloudy or filtered sun days like the UK. If Saddle Brown turns a bit orange in the sun, that's not a big deal for me either. And the positive effect of warming the interior on the grey days easily makes up for that.

Space Grey + Saddle Brown is my final selection.

Thanks,

Dan.
