Original battery E83
Hi I have a Bmw X3 3.0d sport of which I bought new in august 2005 it has never been garaged sits outside in all weathers .I would like to know if anyone else has still got the original battery in there x3 petrol or diesel model and how often should you really change the battery.I started to do my own servicing on the x3 six years ago the first thing I did was to put in a piper cross air filter what difference this better economy and smother pickup and also feels quicker the x3 has been 100% reliable so what are anyone view on the battery .

BMW factory AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Battery can be expexted to last around 8 years. i replaced mine at 10 when it finally wouldn't hold a charge. there is no danger with an AGM to let the battery go it's full life cycle since it won't leak, like a conventional acid cell battery. but if you prefer not to be stranded when it dies, i would suggest replacing yours soon.

My wife had an 04, 2.5i (she had it since new)and it had the original battery when we trade it two years ago(big mistake). The car has been in Indiana and Chicago cold winters, hot Texas summers and Alabama's humidity. It was garage only the last 2 years we had it.
10 years is very rare for a battery on a BMW. I was a tech for 8 years I know by experience that the average lifespan for BMW battery is 4-5 years. |

I don't think a 2005 has the AGM battery,my 2007 has the lead acid type which I changed for a calcium one. These don't need to be coded either, unlike the AGM ones
