Minimum Jack Height for X3
Does anyone know what jack height I will need for a portable scissor lift jack I keep in my trunk? I have searched around (including on this forum) and haven't found much. I seem to remember Lotus mentioning something about it.

Best thing I could find after some research... Still not a definitive answer.

Will the 8.25" be enough to raise both wheels off the ground? Also, would lifting at the front or back points make a difference?

I bought a 2 ton bottle jack from Sears. It is quite compact which is nice for store in that compartment under the trunk floor (barely fits height wise). It has a range of 7.25" to 13 11/16". I bought the jack point tool with the big puck on the end so hopefully it is enough. I will have to test it when I get back from my holiday travels. I did not realize that the parking feature only affects the rear wheels (the parking brake makes sense). It seems like it would be more redundant to have the parking brake lock the rear wheels and the transmission park lock the front. I guess I need to pick up some chocks too. I guess that is good thing to know in case I need to ever tow the car.... Thanks! |

I would like to note the Craftsman 2 ton bottle jack with a max height of 13 11/16" wasn't enough even with the jack point tool... I'm going to need to make some sort of a riser plate for the jack.

Strange how years on someone's past thread is of SO MUCH value :-)
I was about to look into 12" jack, reading the above I think more length required (said the actress to the bishop ;-) |

I've got a BMW sissor jack that was in my E39 stored in the X3 - prefect fit into the car's jack point 'pads' - gets the wheel/tire off the ground, look here https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-97-03-B...frcectupt=true
