They were taking 2011 orders as of yesterday, so I figure they need another 2-3 weeks to finish 2011 production.
My CA said 2012 production will not start until October... unfortunately.

I don't think anyone really knows for sure. BMW has been slow to update there online configurator and website. MY CA told me 2012 production started the 2nd week of September.

does BMW require any downtime on the line between years? the changes for 2012 for the US appear to be mostly changes to how features are packaged - merging convenience into premium and adding 19" wheels and the M headliner to the SAP.

I agree, not many changes.
Black headliner for some models now, glossy black dash.. didn't notice any other changes besides the package combos. I hope they implemented bug fixes for common problems people have found on the 2011. Has anyone seen what the new glossy black dash looks like?

I just configured my 2011 on the 2012 specs - it was $425 more MSRP - however it bundles the 19" wheels with SAP - i have SAP w/ 18's - and the 19's were a $600 option i didn't get. had I gotten them the 2012 is 175 cheaper. from what I can tell the savings is from the new bundled audio package where they combine premium hifi and satellite - that is new.
the flip side is when it comes time to replace the tires, i'll make up for the $175 on the cheaper 18" the only other difference is the headliner and i don't know what that option cost if anything

I didn't see headliner options.
I believe it is he standard headliner unless you get the M package or a 35i with SAP in which saw it is anthracite. I didn't realize satellite was included with premium audio. I'd never have gotten it separately and was wondering why that package went up in price.

Dukat - price on audio went down - on 2011 Premium Hifi was 850 or 875 and a year of satellite is 350 - looks like that new combo package is cheaper for 2012. they weren't packaged in 2011.

My premium audio price for 2012 was $950. I'm pretty sure that was listed on the 2012 changes thread.
I'll confirm on my receipt and call my CA if it differs from the BMWUSA site.

I just got confirmation from the regional marketing manager that Dynamic Damper Control is still part of the Dynamic Handling Package despite it no longer being listed in the 2012 configurator.
"Option Code # 223 "Dynamic Damper Control" is in fact, still INCLUDED in the "Dynamic Handling Package"."
