Torque vectoring
BMW includes the torque vectoring in the Performance Control feature on the x3 35 or at least it's on my 2011 x3 35i. Definitely eats up the rear brakes.
I would imagine this will be on the x4. That said, I'm with the majority, I prefer the looks of the Porsche. |

Macan the clear winner. BMW must be ignoring 'Focus Group' feedback or forgetting the basics of marketing 101.

Guaranteed the Macan S or turbo will spank whatever bmw it goes against. On track, handling or in a straight. Go look at the 911 in which they surely adjust times for it yet it beats their quoted times by a lot. The Macan is about 4100 lbs. that's lighter than the bmw and I'm sure 340/400 are also underpowered. Quoted numbers mean nothing in reality. Other than that the porsche wins easily in every way. Interior, exterior, quality, and performance. |

I have built them a numerous times to my personal specs, Macan S comes out only $595 more. Porsche has a lot useless options, like colored seatbelts for example.

Bloomberg;
"Porsche is ready to boost annual Macan production beyond the 50,000 being planned should demand outstrip supply, Mueller said. The model is already nearly sold out in some European countries, and the current waiting time in Germany is as long as eight months, sales chief Bernhard Maier said. " With some pcars you need an allocation, and then wait. I think the discounts on BMW are quite generous compared to pcars. Macan (formerly Cajun) will likely drive better. The BMW generally offer more safety/camera/electronic options. Competitive pricing on Macan is great, for all. Last edited by barcelona; 03-09-2014 at 07:49 AM.. |

no offense to anyone, but bmw needs to fire whoever is in charge and allowed the design and production of these "3GT-esque" bmws. they look terrible. they make "bangle's butt" looks so much better.

The Macan all day no doubt...but short of having a totally stripped down Macan S, how are you guys getting prices for the Macan S within 2k...let alone $600?
What I check off on the Macan S: $63,500 White 20" RS Spider Wheels - prefer 21" 911 turbo wheels but ok save $...the other wheel options are IMO Park Assist Front/Rear w/ Camera - must have Panoramic Roof - standard on X3/X4 Window Trim in Matte Black - $0 PTV Plus - rather go fast with this option Sport Chrono Package - must have...it's a P car after all Seat Heating (Front and Rear) - must have PCM and Navi - $3,100 option Voice Control Telephone - these last 3 options are reasonable to me Fewer options than these wouldn't make any sense to me If you go option for option...the X4 35i is less money: $56,375 White M-sport 310M Wheels ZDA- Driver Assist Pkg 223-Dyn Damper Control 494-Heated Front Seats 609-Navi - $2,150 option Not to mention the tons of STD options included...add the leather and you are 5k under the Macan S The Macan was a response to a growing market and they pretty much hit a grand slam. I'm not sure it even makes sense to compare these two but it's impossible not to. I'm going for a loaded 2015 X3 M-sport. Don't want anything bigger and will always want more performance. No real option for me to wait a year for a Macan or until the summer for an X4. After this lease run, if BMW doesn't offer a true performance upgrade from the 35i via 40i (which probably won't be enough) or a true M version...I'm going for a Macan Turbo in 2018. The kinks will be out (if there are any) and demand won't be so crazy. Regardless, when it comes to performance and finish, Macan all day. Yes, there is value to the X4, but the Macan is within 5-7k, and more than worth it. Macan >>>everything else

Porsche make a limited offer, Purchase a Macan and you get for free a Dacia next to your Macan. The Dacia will help you when you get stuck with you Macan while doing offroad... At least this is what happened yesterday in Morocco during a Press event. |

I am still not sure how people think these are similar in price
X4 M Sport pretty loaded = $59,000 Macon S with same options = $65,000 plus you have to factor in the $0 maintenance on the BMW, Porsche will be charging you at least $2,000 over those first 4 years for that. so about a $8,000 price difference, 13.5%, these are not in the same class with that big of a gap. Plus if someone wants a lower priced version (28i with limited options) there is no offering from Porsche and doesn't sound like they will be bringing the 4 cyl to the states anytime soon. A better comparison is the X4 to the Evoque. QS5 vs the Macan (same company though) |

I'm deciding between an X4 and the Macan for my next car. And so I test drove the Macan yesterday and I was blown away.
I have to admit, I had my doubts before I drove it. First, I was worried about if I would be able to fit in the back seat (I'm 6'1"), and second, I was kind of already opposed because of the many things BMW's have as standard or offer versus what would be extras on the Macan. The way this thing drives is incredible--incredibly refined. I'd say it's closer to a 911 than a Cayenne. It accelerates, corners, and handles like a dream. Also, the thing is practically glued to the road. Interior, while full of buttons, is gorgeous. I still think the back looks a little strange--but not necessarily unattractive. Also, I fit in the back seat comfortably. That being said, I really want to try the X4 when it comes out. I want to be able to compare the two more side-by-side. I'm coming from an X3 with the I6 now, so I know it's not really a fair comparison against the Macan. Hopefully with its lower stance, enhanced suspension, etc, the X4 35i will be able to make the kind of impression the Macan did. Kind of sad that I'd have only a slightly updated interior for another few years, though, if I chose the X4.

the German Press has published a comparative test of the Macan S vs the X4 35i
If any one (in Germany) could scan it, it may be interesting to have their point of view. |

Had a test drive of a Macan S around a week ago here in Santiago de Chile. Felt pity (can't find another word for that) for the X4 honestly after that. I don't think I will even bother for a test drive with the X4. Here are my impressions that I posted in the 1M sub-forum, post no.287 at the top of page 14 of the following thread:

So, don't expect from X4 to be even close to Macan level when it comes to driving dynamics. Perhaps M40i will come a bit closer - but it will be more expensive than Macan S. Yet when comparing X4 to X3 or other non-Porsche SAVs & crossovers, X4 proves to be a very dynamic & agile vehicle. Yet as always, Porsche cars are in their own league. |
