Design Flaw

Fitted the BMW Apple iPhone 3G/3GS Snap In Adapter into my wife's car and couldn't understand why her phone did not fit the adaptor. My assumption is that most people put their iPhones in cases these days, but obviously the designers of this part keep their iPhones "naked". Pity they didn't step out of their studio into the street and observe how the rest of the world were actually using the product. With a bit of creative thinking they could have made the cradle work with any iPhone and case. Not impressed.

I would be surprised if they could make a snap in adapter that would work with any case (there are thousands of different cases for the iPhone). I see the same issue with cradles and docks for home use -- they all require the device to be bare in order to snap into the dock connector and hold everything in place. Seems like common practice for iPhone accessories.

FWIW, only about half the people I know with iPhones use a case. I don't use one on mine.

Neither do I, and I have the scratches on the glass and the case to prove it.

I don't use one either, why bother... you upgrade phones probably at least every 4-5 years ish..

My wife uses one though, it's hot pink...I think that's the main reason.

Works if you use a leather Sena Ultraslim case or similar. iPhone stays in pristine condition, no extra bulk, it doesn't look rubbish like all cases that allow you to use the iPhone when in its case (there are no cases that do anything other than make the iPhone look much worse) but ... you have to take it out of the case to use it, which is deal breaker for many people, but they just haven't seen the light yet

Would be hard to accomodate various cases out there.. some people use thin plastic hardcase, some use thicker tpu cases, some even use otterbox that is quite thick..
I like to use mine naked too

It makes sense that they would design it this way. Why not design for a spec. you know will be constant throughout.

I got tired of taking it out of the case to place the cradle, now I just use the USB cable and have not found any loss of connected app functionality.

Cases are a wate fr the iPhone. The only thing that ever scratched mine was a case.

Even Apple's own OEM Iphone dock is built so that the Iphone cannot be in a case (except those that are ultra-slim or have a removable bottom piece) while charging.

Not a design flaw, but it would have been nice.
