Smile Retrofit new X4M40i steering wheel onX4 or X3

Hello,

I did the retrofit of the new Sport Steering Wheel available on the BMW X4 M40i.

Here is my tutorial compatible with BMW X3 and X4.

What's new ?
A new look, a nice leather, a bigger wheel

Is it easy to retrofit ?
Technicaly it is not complicated but
Technically there is nothing very complicated but this still remains a delicate operation, partly because you have to disconnect the battery and replace the airbag. to do knowingly or done by a pro.

[b]1-Disconnect the battery in the trunk [/ b]
The battery is in the trunk, under the floor. With a key 10 disconnect the negative (-) terminal. Isolate it so it does not touch anything, eg with a cloth. Wait a few minutes. [b] Do not close the trunk if you can not open it! [/ b]

2- Remove the airbag
The airbag is clipped into the steering wheel. Clips must be released with a screwdriver inserted into the holes on the back of the steering wheel while pulling the airbag. Disconnect the plug of the airbag and the steering wheel controls.
!! Put the airbag on the ground, Horn and BMW logo at the top !!

3- Remove the Steering Wheel
Unscrew the nut with a socket 16 and an extension cord. No need to mark, the wheel will necessarily be right once installed, there is keyed.
Hold the steering wheel not to force the Neiman.

The old and the new steering wheel (protected):

4. Install the new steering wheel
Although align the grooves, insert the plug of the steering wheel, screw and tighten the nut.
Connect Airbag, organize cables and then clip the airbag by pushing the wheel, you will hear two clicks.

5-Reconnect the battery
Connect the negative terminal to the battery.

It remains for you to put the contact (from the passenger or back seat, not the front airbag for the first time) and test the steering wheel controls.

Optionaly :

You can choose as me a steering wheel with a LIM button instead of SET, so you can use the traditional cruise control or use the speed limiter.

With the limiter you keep control on the accelerator, but do not exceed the set speed.

!! You must code the car if the button works as a SET button !!

New price list? Is the 2017 build data out yet or are you talking about a parts list?

Hi BE X, no it is the 2016 build. If you go on BMW Germany www.bmw.de and looks for the price list of the X4, you will see that the price list is dated April 2016. This new steering wheel is available as an option (article code 710) for any X4 with M sport package. BUT if you choose heating fonction, you won't be able have "driving assistant or driving assistant plus".

€ 1'500.- that's quite expensive, if you consider that the option is quoted € 200.- (with german VAT of 19% included) on their price-list.

You have to change everything, including the Airbag.

But :
- You can sell your old steering wheel and Airbag
- I can offer you a very good price, a lot less than the retail price

Hello,

Yes you can retrofit this steering wheel with the shift paddles but you generaly will need some hardware modification to connect the paddles to the car.

+ Coding of course
