X4 35i Purchase - How to get the best price?

My wife has decided she wants a new X4 xDrive35i and will likely pay cash or finance, not lease.

What is the expected discount off MSRP for a fully loaded X4? I’ve read 7% to 8% is common.

Any advantage when negotiating on in-stock vs custom builds?

Any pattern of late year BMW discounts I should wait for?

I haven’t seen the car yet myself but my vote doesn’t really count. I suggested she just get an X3 but she likes the more unique and sportier look of the X4. She drives a 2003 330i now and I drive a 2009 335i coupe with only 43k on it so the chances are I will like this BMW as well.

The options seem to overlap a bit. Any suggestions on some she may not miss?

Thanks.

George – Seattle

I recommend that she select the velour mats instead of the rubber ones.
I did, and I will never have rubber floor mats ever again.

Thanks for the reply even if the mats are the least of my priorities or concerns.

My wife uses carpet mats and I use rubber and either is fine with me although the rubber has some advantages for dog owners in rainy Seattle.

We just got my wife a well equipped 2016 28i...I tried to get her into X3 as well for the greater visibility and utility. Sexier won over practical in our house too.

Frankly I don't see overlap in your build. My wife would not need the smart phone integration, damper controls or the active driving assist, but those are very personal decisions.

I don't have a sense of year-end BMW offers - we did very well on Black Friday and I know end of month is very important to all dealers so consider that.

Cost wise we did better than the averages you are quoting. But I am also a 7 time BMW buyer at this dealer and they treat me very well.

I also have heard that MB and BMW are in quite a race for the most cars sold, so now is probably a good time to buy if that indeed is true.

Do you really need xDrive in Seattle? We did here in snow country.

I got 14% off by:
-specified my vehicle and made a downpayment - about $6.000
-dealer had at is DEMO - max 3 month and 3000miles
-bribed the SA with two bottles of Champagne to keep it "out of sight".

It helped that they had also a diesel - most SUV:s in Europe are diesels.

Result: dealer let it go after two month with 1000 miles on the clock.

This would be our third BMW purchase through this dealer so we might get some love but not like a 7 time buyer would.

As far as the damper control, I need to learn more about what it provides but it won’t be a deal breaker one way or the other. My wife is sensitive to the ride. I like the stiffer sport ride, she prefers a softer ride.

Nice to know there might be better discounts available. I want a good but fair price.

xDrive is the only way they come and I would order it that way even if there was a 2 wheel drive option. Wish I would have ordered my 335i cp that way. We make a few trips over the mountain pass, do some skiing and while we don’t get that much snow or ice near Seattle, the hills and inexperienced drivers cause problems when we do. Even with xDrive, she will likely park the X4 and I’ll need to give her a ride in my trusty 2000 Toyota Landcruiser.

Thank you for the input, I really appreciate it.

Thanks, not sure I can get that nice of deal but we may just go for a cash purchase which may help.

You're welcome. Good luck and keep us posted on what she decides.

I should haVe also mentioned that this was an in stock vehicle and I think that helped in getting the best deal. Just a hunch.

She also came from E70 X5 35i which is a wonderful vehicle. But finds the X4 a better fit for her as an EDD.

Definitely get the Dynamic Damper Control. Skip smartphone integration unless you want to use the snap in.

Yes, it seems most of the features that used to be exclusive to the smartphone integration package (receiving texts, full Bluetooth with playlists/cover art, etc) are enabled on my 2016 and I have no cradle.

Thanks all. We are getting close and hope to buy or order before the end of the year but it is hard to find the time.

Now she wants to drive an X6 after I told her the X4 felt a little small to me after sitting in one; I still haven’t driven either model.

I said that about the 3 series too and now drive a 335i CP.

It will be her car so I want her to get the model she prefers.

The X6 is much heavier, bigger gas tank than the X4 but let her test-drive it. (X6 will cost more at the bank and pump).
X3, X4 (my first 2 choices) for practicality and enjoyment and doesn't feel heavy at all and won't break the bank.

My wife test drove the X6 and shocked us both when she preferred it to the X4. While the X6 seems big in comparison, her reason for getting a BMW SUV was to better accommodate rear seat passengers’ on the rare occasion we have any.

She felt the X4 was no bigger than my 09 335i CP or even her 03 330i sedan. Since I have never driven the X4 and haven’t even seen an X6 as far as I know, I can’t really comment one way or the other. I understand both have limited headroom in the back seat. It isn't my car but since I will still drive it at times, it is strange buying a car sight unseen.

Regardless, we ordered an X6. I think the real reason is because she wanted mineral white and it is not available in an X4 M sport line. This is going to hurt the pocket book a LOT more but Happy Wife, Happy Life.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Worse things in life than having to settle for an X6

I owned 2 of em and loved the 50i especially. Enjoy it!

We bought my wife a 2016, X4-35i, this past July with the following equipment:

Base Price 49,250.00
Mineral White 550.00
Driver Assistance 700.00
Driver Asst. Plus 1,700.00
Lighting Pkg. 1,900.00
Premium Pkg. 2,200.00
Technology Pkg. 2,750.00
XLine Pkg. 1,000.00
Heat Front Seats 500.00
Smartphone Int. 200.00
Destination 995.00
Total MSRP 61,745.00

I used USAA's TrueCar pricing as a starting point, and they did beat it by about $400 after much negotiation. We paid $57,549.00, which I think was fair since it was when the 16s were first hitting dealer lots. I really wanted the ACC Stop & Go + Active Driving Assistant option, but this car was on the car hauler as-is. Plus we got it for about $700 cheaper than a 2015, service loaner/demo they had on the lot. I would also like the M sport package, but really only for the nicer front seats.
