Good-bye 3-series, hello X3

Well, I've had my 2006 330i for 5 years now and I just placed an order for an X3. Loved loved loved the 3-series but with two young kids now and a more wintery environment it's time for something more practical for my lifestyle and climate.

With the 330i I added all the bells and whistles (premium, sport, nav, etc.) but realized that I didn't need most of them. I think I just wanted "the best" at that time. I'm taking a much more practical approach to the X3. I ordered a xDrive28i with no options or packages - black on black. My only complaint is that they don't offer a manual transmission in Canada.

In any event, bye bye 330i, hello X3. Hopefully you'll be as good to me as the outgoing car was.

Congratulations! I've not driven a 3, but I'm floored by the X3. Smart choice for packages, although if you read this forum a lot you may end up adding a few things to your order...

We also had 2006 330is. Had to sell them when assigned overseas -- sad days. Just came back and got the X3. We'd previously had a 4Runner to handle utility stuff, bad weather, dogs, etc. Decided to combine that function and the fun of the BMW into one car. I thought it would be nicer than the 4Runner but not much like the 330i. I was wrong. It's not exactly the same, but it's a whole lot closer than I expected and I'm having great fun with it. Hoping you'll find the same!!

Thanks guys. I won't miss the bells and whistles. So much is standard now anyway. Not that I need to list them on this forum given that most readers already know, but having standard features like iDrive, heated steering wheel, bluetooth, etc. is pretty neat. For the longest time those types of things were add ons.

It also helped that the dealership gave me $1800 off sticker which I thought was pretty good given the demand for the new vehicle. Another dealership offered $800 discount.

Some of the things you listed are not standard. Might want to check the configurator to make sure you're getting the stuff you want.
