Very short model years

Anyone else a little perturbed by how short the model years have been for the x3 so far?
At least in the USA:
2011-January-September
2012- September-April
2013- April-?

My 2011 car will be 1yr old in May 2012 and the 2013 will be in production.
Granted I bought later in the year as I wanted certain options, but this is retarded.

I think BMW should rethink this as it is wrecking our resale value.

I agree. But i think the machine is already in motion. Most people who buy used probably wont check the "month" but look at model "year"... I hope..

I can see where you're coming from in terms of lost resale value, but I think you've got it wrong in thinking that it's becoming practice and that BMW needs to re-think it.

Looking at the timelines, it seems like there's perfectly good reason for it to me.

2011 - Nov 2010 - Sept 2011; short MY due to late calendar year introduction of the 2nd generation X3
2012 - Sept 2011 - April 2012; short MY due to introduction of the N20 28i
2013 - April 2012 - Sept 2013?? long MY to bring it back in sync?

Makes more sense to start the 2013 model year early for the N20 than to have people try to distinguish 2012 28i vs 2012.5 28i later on.

I ended up on the winning side of the early 2013MY though, so you might say I'm biased.

No, but the x4 is coming and I'm just thinking if I go the full 4 years and it's 2016 on the calendar, what model year will BMW be on?

Tangsta, i hope you're right and 2013 ends up running long...
April 2012-September 2013.

That said, does anyone know what the end of production date is for 2013?

I bought a 2011 in Nov and its now 2 model years old. It was only built 6 months ago. If I keep it 4 years, when I sell it it will be the 2020 model year at this rate and people will tell me I have a 10 year old car.

I took delivery of my 2012 in November 2011 and suddenly its 2013. Sometimes I have to think about what year it is!

It seems like BMW calculates their cars in dog years, or they mature quickly.
I agree, I got my 2011 X3 less than a year ago (May) and it’s now 2 years old.
