Changing off OE RFT to wider smaller AS

2011 X3 xDrive28i Premium.
Has anyone had experience changing off the original 245/55R17 RFTs to a wider, shorter aspect ratio tire? I'm thinking of 255/50R17 or a 255/45R17. Will the 255 fit? I want to get off RTFs to something like the Continental DWS 06. Thanks.

I run Continental DWS 06 on my 08. Love them.

I just put the DWS 06 on the other day but if you notice my other post I'm concerned about the load rating... Haven't had a chance to test the grip because they only have about 50 miles on them but I can say there is a really bad dead zone on center they aren't very responsive though they push back after you turn in which feels nice. But I run P-Zero summers in the warm months and man these things destroyed my steering feel (long story why I didn't get dedicated winter tires again).
