Cracked Windscreen...X3 Only Two Weeks Old!
Got a small stone chip in the centre of my windscreen yesterday which has developed into two horizontal cracks extending half the width of the glass
BMW UK tell me that the screen fitted to my car is out of stock and "on extended back order". My car is insured by BMW and I'd really like my dealer to fit the new glass when it finally arrives. I could use Autoglass though I'm a bit concerned about letting them loose on my two week old car. Has anyone had experience of a screen replacement by Autoglass? Should I trust them? Better going to the dealer? Will the dealer actually do it or get Autoglass in anyhow? I'd appreciate your comments, advice.

Hi Saggo. I've had plenty of windscreens fitted by Autoglass and they have always done an excellent job. There have never been any scratches and they have always cleaned up after themselves. It's worth making sure your car is clean before they start though and also have somewhere they can fix it under cover. They will probably be more adept than the dealer as they fit more screens.

Had mine replaced by Autoglass on my E90 - the auto wipers were never as good (read that, as sensitive) as beforehand. But they did do a good job, didn't scratch anything and tidied up.
If you want OEM glass from your dealer I'm pretty sure they'll only pay the first £x towards it and the OEM windscreen is v expensive. Hope you get it sorted

I had an Autoglass screen fitted to my 535d.
No problem fitting and were clean and tidy. I would use them again without hesitation. Cheers |

BMW insurance agreed to pay for dealer to fit windscreen without question (even though Autoglass are their preferred supplier) - no affect on my insurance excess payment either. BMW UK have no stock of my particular screen nor have Germany so I've got to put up with cracked screen for another week.
