OK update. Apparently the trunk setting takes a while to work. Just tried it again and now it works.
One press to open and another to close from the inside button. Great stuff. Guys on F10 Bimmerfest forum have been really helpful. |

Right?! $50 for something that takes 10 minutes max and $15??!!
Scammers! LOL the one from Lithuania is $37, and if you want it within a week, it comes out to like $97! Codecard.it or something.

I just ordered a $6 OBD 2 connector, I've got some Ethernet scraps at the house I can use. Once I get the cable (and the car) I'll build one and if it works I'll order some more supplies and make a few for you guys.

It's odd how they decide who gets what in US VS. ROW

A CAF file backup utility:
Once you are ready with the changes and want to save your CAF files, use the attached utility to backup files to a folder C:\My_CAF_Files by double clicking it. It saves to a new folder with date-time stamp. This utility works on Windows XP and Win 7. Unzip the file to Desktop or to any location of your choice. No need to create any folders, it will do on its own for you, just double click on it. Edit: Look for the post 42, Copy_CAF has been improved to take care of formats other than US. Anyone with an MY2013 and either High Beam Assist, Speed Limit Info or Lane Departure Warning.
These all seem to use the same hardware ... I think that if you have High Beam Assist (HBA) or Lane Departure Warning (LDW) you can enable Speed Limit Info (SLI) with coding alone as there are no extra dash buttons. I have HBA and LDW and now regret not getting LDW ... ... not for the LDW but the Forward Warning (FW) that also comes with it. Although both LDW and FW require buttons and some extra hardware, I think that this may not be "essential". The missing HW for LDW is the vibrating steering wheel and on/off switch on dash. For FW its just the on/off on the dash. So what I want to know is, does anyone know the coding option to enable and switch Forward Warning to always on?

Hey guys wanted to chime in and say I got everything up and working and it was super easy to adjust the settings
------ Things I really like so far that standout from all the other changes: Having the vehicle start up with the Auto Start/Stop OFF by default (instead of ON by default) which is how I think it should always have been. You turn it on only when you think you need it. No more ACCEPT to hit when it starts up since no more iDrive disclaimer...soooo nice I also like the folding and unfolding of the side mirrors automatically with the comfort access (and keyfob). ------ I think this took care of all the small annoying things to make the X3 an even better vehicle hehe ..No longer have to be jealous of the non-US version functions

Cool ..I was thinking about turning that feature on as well. So for long trips someone, other than the driver (<--see how I added that part in for the net nannies ), can be entertained. Now that it's set up and working it's really easy to pop in and change something when I want to

It's too bad there isn't someone in the GTA that could code my wheels. The mods that KingX did are what I'd do too + maybe the close the trunk with the key fob.

I have done the bare minimum mods:
1. DVD in Motion 2. Closing of tailgate with FOB and inside button 3. Door lock opening automatically when car is switched off 4. Closing of all windows plus moon roof on a locked car 5. Closing of side view mirrors and auto opening when door is opened 6. Passing on my phone ring tone to iDrive Tried to change the Area Code of DVD but reverted back as it had stopped recognising format of my DVDs |

I did do the trunk close stuff with the fob and inside button as well. It just wasn't on my list of annoying things i wanted to change hence why I didn't list it earlier

I have updated Copy_CAF batch file to v2 version and is attached here. This utility is very useful to keep backup of changed files at every change. You can add this file to "External Programs" on ESys and operate directly from within ESys.
Let me know if this utility is useful. Thanks. I use it regularly. |

I started reading the thread on the other forum (pg 10 of 55). You guys have said the coding is fairly easy but after installing the esys software I'm loosing my nerves about trying this. Is it possible to fubar the car (brick it as horsey stated)?

Use the pdf thats floating around and stick to the straightforward stuff and I'm sure you'll be OK. I haven't heard of anyone who has 'bricked' their car. Its not really coding, it's merely changing settings. Plently of people on this forum who can help you if you get stuck. |
