Coolant expansion tank problem
I’m new here, thanks for letting me join!
I need to do some repairs on a coolant leak that seems to be coming from the bottom of the coolant expansion tank of my 2011 x3. It’s hard to see the area, so before I tried removing anything I wanted to get some service manuals. I used Bentley in the past for my BMWs but there doesn’t seem to be one for the f25. I found some old post with links to online PDFs but they don’t seem to exist anymore. I don’t mind paying money for good manuals, but the eBay offerings look very schetchy Any suggestions? Thanks! |

You can also pick up one of these kits they are very helpful and fairly cheap

Thanks for the helpful link!
On closer inspection, it looks like the leak is from the level sensor. Perhaps a sensor swap will cure it. I tried taking off the expansion tank. It looked easy from the instructions. Basically remove one hose and one bolt then lift. Well, i wasn’t able to lift the plastic knob out of the rubber grommet. I gave it some good force before I decided to put things back together for now, top off with some distilled water and rethink a strategy. Should it be that hard to get the plastic knob on the bottom to pop out?? I might try angling some leverage with a flat head screwdriver. |

Anyone know if this new expansion tank comes with the sensor already? It kinda looks like it. I can’t seem to find the sensor by itself, so maybe it does?
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...k/17138616418/ Also, the small coolant hose on the top of mine feels very stiff. It that supposed to be that way? Or is mine time hardened and brittle. Just wondering if that should be replaced too, or just leave it as is. Changing it is a 5 minute job since it’s on top. The tis site seems to be working but I think I need some time to learn how to navigate it. |

Best to look at realOEM website https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select to confirm part numbers, configuration, etc. input last 7 of VIN.
That small diameter tube is rigid by design. Last edited by Wgosma; 01-01-2021 at 09:57 AM.. |
