Preliminary numbers are 28/34. I would guess they'll be a bit higher in final form (Euro cycle is 38/47, and doing the ratio math vs. 328d gets you to about 30/36).
Still hoping there's someone out there with a 28d order who has some info on shipping delays, please. |

BMW needs to give us a 35d as well, I hope the 28d does good MPG numbers otherwise I might have to look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel 240hp/420lb-torque

2015 X3 28d ordered
I have a production number for the X3 28d 2015 model and the tracking says its in production. Got info that they are still waiting for EPA and CARB certs and nothing will be delivered until this is received.
Does anyone know if this is a big issue and if I should cancel my order? |

Waiting a little for certification, especially US certification is nothing out of the ordinary for new engines. BMW will just stockpile the cars until the day certification is granted and then deliver them on mass to customers. Happens all the time.

1. Why do you think there is a certification holdup? This is not a new engine; it's the engine that was used in the 328d last year. 2. Assuming there is a certification holdup, has anyone had any experience with how long these delays generally go? My delivery was scheduled for over 2 weeks ago. Why would they schedule a delivery if there was a known holdup on certification? |

Since there is a holdup I would think it is. 2) The US authorities seem to like holding things up suddenly with new engines. But its usually just been a few weeks when looking at past BMW engine launches. Doesnt your dealership have a updated delivery date for you ?

My car is already built and waiting to be shipped, so it doesn't seem like there is any engine update like the rest of the world. The holdup could be EPA but it's not because this is a new engine unless BMW put a new engine in my car (and presumably other 28d that had early April delivery dates) and subsequently is trying to get approved, but this seems bizarre to me. |

Maybe give BMW USA a call directly, others have found them helpful at times. Red tape and paperwork is a problem for any manufacturer. This is not the first or last time this has happened.

The sales manager at my dealership did get back to me today and offered some info. It sounds like you are right: there is an EPA holdup on the engine and no clear date of resolution. He mentioned a 1-2 week time frame (from today), but didn't sound certain. I hope this is helpful to anyone else waiting for a diesel! |

CARB has finally approved the X3 28d's engine as of 4/21. And of course they did, since it's the same engine from last year (N47) that was used in the 328d already and was already approved last year. Not sure what the holdup was, but this should resolve the backup of vehicles at Spartanburg (or one would hope). |
