Complementary Security Enhancement
Just received an email from my dealer offering:-
As your vehicle is still in warranty, the team would like to offer you a complementary Security Enhancement on your BMW, which includes a software update to ensure your vehicle stays as safe as possible My vehicle was November 2012 build and I thought they had fixed the security problems that affected cars with them being stolen via the OBD (?) port so wondering what this could be? Anybody have any ideas? |

You would think so wouldn't you
I have left a message with them, but they can be a bit slow in responding. I suppose I am a bit unnerved given the BMW theft spree that took place last year due to a security glitch. Also would be interested to know how many have received this "recall" notification and whether anybody has any idea what is involved, etc. Silly example perhaps but if the software update resulted in the seatbelt warning chime volume being doubled, or disabled the BMW Online services whilst in motion, then I would rather avoid this. |

Oh do keep us posted.. mine is October 2011 build, so lets hope its just BMW beefing things up rather than another hack.

So it turns out that the email they sent me did not apply to my vehicle and only to earlier builds still vulnerable to the OBD thefts.
In the meantime they have invited me to drop in so they can have a look at my other complaints including:- 1. Problem with Sat Nav RTTI info being back to front; 2. Lag on the reverse sensors; and 3. Not picking up emails on iphone in iDrive Office. They think it may be a 'feather setting' on the car although I have never heard this term before. Does anybody know what a "feather setting" is? |
