Loose steering - could use some guidance
Hello all,
I have a 2013 X3 35i that until recently was handling beautifully. A few weeks ago I took it into the stealership for the 15k maintenance and had them do the alignment. It came out well -- steering felt tight, handling was solid, etc. Then, I made a road trip to LA -- where the roads are not always that nice -- and while there, at a rather slow speed, ended up missing the right edge of a very narrow driveway and driving over the curb (right side front and back wheels went over the curb). Ever since getting back from my road trip, the handling feels sloppy. The steering feels loose, and I'm feeling quite a bit of body roll now in the curves, which I never experienced before. I had the stealership take a look at it when I got back, and they said the alignment is perfectly in spec. They saw no damage to the suspension, and thought the car drove fine in their test drives. I adjusted the tire pressure (32.5 in front, 38.5 in back, how I like it and usually have it), and the tires have plenty of tread left. And they returned it to me with no adjustments at all. But the handling before and after my road trip feels like a night and day difference to me. I am stumped, and not at all sure what the issue could be. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions from the X3 community? Thanks in advance! |

If you know someone else with an X3, have them drive it. They'll know right away.

Incidentally, it turned out that the BMW dealership had their alignment machine inspected...and the specs were off. So, they realigned the machine, and did my alignment again. Driving much more nicely now
