Pirelli Sottozeros - a brief review

This is my second year using Sottozeros in the winter. Last winter there was no snow to speak of. Sunday we had snow showers here in Philadelphia, 4-8 inches of showers. LOL The Sottozeros were awesome. I didn't loose traction anywhere. Unfortunately there were a lot of cars on the road with their "all season" tires - mediocre in the summer, fair in the winter, bad in the snow and ice. I went up and down hills with cars stuck (going up) and sliding downhill. They passed the test. Today a few more inches on the way. Can't wait to get out and drive. I'm glad I have them on.

Thanks for the feedback. The predicted snow for us did not materialize.

It's my second winter also with Pirelli Sottozero. I concur with your assessment. Have a safe Holiday season.

Cheers.

I'm not as impressed as you guys about the Sottozero's but I'm glad you are satisfied.

What aren't you impressed with? I've been using winter tires since 2004 on at least 2 vehicles each winter. I've run Dunlap, Bridgestone and now Pirelli. My grading is pass fall. I don't have any way to compare them side by side in the same weather, on the same car, with the same age tire. If I'm driving around effortlessly while other vehicles are slipping, sliding and stuck, then they pass. If I'm also slipping, sliding and or stuck too, they fail. I can only compare using them to what I've experienced with z rated tires in the snow (bad, bad, bad, bad, ......, bad), and all season tires in the snow (bad, bad, bad).

I was driving tonight in about 3" of snow and found the sotto's terrible for stopping. Obviously accelerating with all wheel drive ain't the problem.

To be fair I don't know if salt/sand had been put down and it was about -13c but other tires I've used are much better for stopping. i.e. Hakka's and Blizzaks

I find the Sotto's about equal to a good all season tire.
