Trip Computer?
Ok, so I am on a roll with new posts (sorry). I just noticed that there is no Trip A or Trip B just one trip computer in the car?
In the past I've reset Trip A every time I would fill my car to keep better track of mileage and Trip B would be used for long trips or work related trips I needed to track easily. Seems weird being that a $14k car has A and B but not our $50k cars. Also, on the iDrive trip computer there is an option to reset it it? Does it reset when the engine stops\starts or with a new destination? I used to (in my old car) have the Trip A set to reset everytime I filled the tank which is what I would prefer of this car. |

Well, your frustration about the lack of Trip A/B (as far as I know) may be impacted by how you used it. If you used Trip A to get an idea how much distance you have left in the tank based on past experience, or to monitor for unusual changes in fuel consumption, then this car has you covered. Without pushing anything it gives you remaining range on your fuel. It also gives you avg fuel consumption. That one you'd want to reset after fueling if you're monitoring for unusual changes.
If set to "automatic reset", the trip computer resets about 4 hours after the vehicle stops -- and yes, that's one of those things in the manual that you'll get crap for asking here.

Yeah - still annoying. Every car now has trip a/b and still has the mpg and miles to empty. I read other posts on how the X3 is more accurate but they are never really accurate and thats why I like to reset it.
Is there a way to change the reset interval? Would be much more useful to set it to reset on fillips like my Acura. |

You can reset it whenever you like, and/or use the auto feature.
Somebody's a little OCD about their mileage, it seems . . .

Not sure if this will suit your needs or not but here's the info just in case.
There are two types of trip computer and you can display/reset either. Trip can be set to reset automatically. From the manual... Quote:

Ok - I read that in the manual. Is the "onboard" one the basic one in the dash and is the "trip" in the idrive?

I think you can set it to display onboard or trip in the dash but I'm not 100% sure

Use the button on the end of he turn signal stalk. Push it until the "mpg" displays. Fill your tank. Push and hold button to reset. Observe throught that tank. Look just before refueling; that's mpg for that tank. Refuel, reset, repeat
