That's not how sport mode works? Jesus, this car is really just a pile of diluted dog poo poo. I better order more replacement parts for my ZHP.

Get it, you wont look back!

I activated last user mode myself via coding and I've never turned ASS on since. I know some rate it but ASS does not (in my eyes) lend itself to automatic cars. We have it on our manual Mini and I've no issue with it whatsoever but on an automatic I found it impossible to live with and at times borderline dangerous.

"Borderline dangerous" seems a bit OTT!

We us it all the time can't see what all the fuss is about, never seen it as a issue. I can see some may not like it but it is not a safety issue, it works very well, it is the users who have the problem.

It doesn't work well with auto-hold because you lose control of when it shuts off the engine but if you're not using auto-hold, you can easily control it with the brake pedal so if you expect a wait of more than a few seconds you let it shut off the engine, otherwise you don't. This works for me and I've kept it switched on and used this manual brake pedal intervention for nearly 18 months now. You get the odd occasion when it randomly doesn't switch off the engine but it's pretty rare that it switches off the engine when you're holding the brake to stop it

It's clearly a big deal for some people but if it annoyed that me that much, it would surely serve as a reminder to press the disable switch just after you push stop/start and take off the handbrake every time you started the car

Good luck getting a UK dealer to agree to upgrading your iDrive for free just to get this though

Service Adviser doesn't believe...

I called my SA to schedule an appointment to get this reprogrammed...he did not believe this could be done because of new CAFE standards.

Glad I found this thread and was able to e-mail him the SIB. Hoping to hear back from him tomorrow regarding this.

I can't wait to get the MSA feature working the way it should have been the whole time...with the driver in control.

Heard back from my advisor, and my dealership can make this change, but after looking around these forums, I decided to code it myself.

Funny thing, my advisor said it would take 4-5 hours to re-program for this change. But after I setup the software, this took me about 10 minutes.

It makes a big difference for me and the way I drive, and am glad BMW now can set this up for anyone who asks for it.

Thanks for posting the bulletin. Picked up my X35i on 11/23. Got tired of pushing the on/off button. Scheduled an appointment 12/19 and the dealer made the change. They did not hear about this, so good thing I brought a copy of the service bulletin in.

It's sooo nice now... not having the engine stop/start and pushing the button. The SA tested out the car and said that was great, lol.

I for one like the feature - there are several left turn lights (US) that are long depending on the prevaling traffic patterns. I find it helpful to have the system working while I wait on the light to cycle. MPG doesn't change but the avg MPH does...

Question for those who have had coding done to have the Auto Stop Start default to "Off," and/or "Last User Mode:"

Is the bright orange light still "on" when the ASS/MAS is not activated?

I had mine programmed ... which meant latest software. All free of charge. The downside is the new software won't let you read sms when driving. It gives a disclaimer warning. But you can have the sms read back to you. I think in a way it's a good thing that you can't read the sms. Bit of a distraction to me.
