Not yet, my car has to go on the operating table august 16.
He will be hospitalized for a week. I hope he gets better. The people who wants to support him, can send a card to... the BMW garage. |

Experiencing the same "Clunk" when going into reverse in a parking situation. Auto-hold is not on, and it seems to be coming from the driver's side. Going to contact my dealer. Any recommendations from those who have already gone in for a fix on this same problem?

Time seems to be fixing mine. It now only happens very rarely.
Having said that if there is a permanent fix then I want it. Last week I sent a PM to Steven40 to see if BMW had managed to fix his as he seems the latest person to try get a solution. Steven40 where are you........ |

Hello, here I am !
About the clunk, the garage looked at it and said there 's nothing irregular. They 've put some fat on it, now it happens less but it's still there ... |

Had this happen for the first time today whilst reversing up a slight slope. Not too concerned as yet - 1st time in a month - but diagnosis from anyone with a fix appreciated.

I have the same clunk exactly as described here before . I am planning to leave it as it is for now until I reach a solution with the dealer to my wind noise problem. On the other hand, if it is caused by one or more brake pads, maybe as they are worn out the clunk may lessen or disappear. After all it is not a prior issue for me about my car unless it gets a lot worse or frequent.
One thing I realize as I read the forum tough is, certain issues occur frequently on F25s sold in the US market while some other problems reported in this forum seem specific to vehicles sold outside of America . Engine or transmission related posts may be explained as different equipments used- gas and diesel engines or different transmissions, but how about this clunk issue, or wind noise being mostly reported by European owners? I wonder if X3s shipped to outside of the States have a different QC cycle, or some parts used are different than US X3s. Last edited by Ural; 10-18-2011 at 03:27 AM.. |

Break Dust
I took my X3 to the dealer for the "Clunk" noise when breaking in reverse. Dealer's answer was "it is caused by space in the break pad assembly to allow expansion when it gets hot. The noise will go away when break dusts build up". Is this a valid answer??

That could be the cause, but that's a bullshit excuse. If they clunk BMW needs to fix the design. Breaks shouldn't clunk or have to get dirty & worn to stop clunking. It really pisses me off when dealers make up bullshit excuses to cover up faults instead of admitting the design if poor and finding a way to fix it. Sorry for your problem.

What were your rattles and creaks? I have tinks and creaks coming from the center stack, creaks from the passenger door panel, and sunroof tinking over hard road imperfections.

My center dash (sounds like the area around the I-drive) tinks and creaks a lot. Makes me nuts, but I don't relish the thought of the service department ripping apart the dash to make it stop so right now I'm just living with it.

I just want my front left bump clunk to be fixed. Then again, that's why my first X3 was lemoned. Want the Thrill, I don't think you're as thrilled as I am that this is happening all over again .

Second one still there but has faded. They also spotted one from the air vents in the centre and fixed that too. I hadn't spotted this but noticed it had gone. Do have a slight creak in the centre around the cup holders. But this only appears as the body flexes when cornering quite hard !! |

I got this kind of thing a lot in my old car and have some PTFE spray that I used to give a quick squirt. It generally solved it for a few months.

Oh and just to complete a hat trick of posts I do still have the brake clunk but far less frequent.
It is definitely that the pad doesn't sit tight in the caliper but I was told BMW are looking into it. |
