M-Sport Options removes Kick to Open - why?
When ordering my 2016 X3 M-Sport I had no idea that the kick to open convenience feature gets deleted. This makes no sense to me.
The X3 still has a power tailgate, so why wouldn't a kick sensor work with the M-Sport package? More importantly, how can I install the sensor and configure a work-around? |

I almost didn't go forward with the M-Sport option when I found out about this issue, plus it also didn't come with the color that I wanted (blue).
I hope someone can provide insights on how to retrofit and add this function in. |

It's strange because the X4 M-sport has it.
For what it's worth though, the feature really sucks. It doesn't work consistently at all. |

There are long threads from people having trouble using it, I'm not the only one. Point being, it's not a feature I'd let be a "make or break" decision. I would be extremely disappointed to give up M-sport only to get something that worked this poorly. |

I was in the car wash the other day. Behind the car with the nozzle, and I triggered it. Fighting to keep it from completely opening since I didn't want to get water inside.

Not a good idea to manually open/shut the tailgate. I've replaced both lift struts.

Not just the 16 MY. I have a '15 ms port and the kick feature to open the hatch doesn't work either. I didn't know about it until I asked the dealer why it wasn't working....no big deal because I didn't even know about the availability on the x3. my wife's 328 has it and works fine.

I really only went to the M-Sport for the sport seats. They are just incredible. I had them in my 2013 F30 Sport. I'm not a huge fan of the body kit, not saying I don't like it. But I prefer the X-Line styling most. I would have adjusted to the X-Line seats had I known about the Kick to Open feature being deleted. I had it in my F30, loved it. Poor communication by the BMW sales associate. I'd still like to find a way to retrofit this and make it work, but I'm not very optimistic about this. |
