About to Purchase '13 35i... Thoughts on Pricing

AW
Black Leather
Wave Wood
M-Sport
Dynamic Handling
Driver Assistance
Tech
Premium
Premium Sound
Cold Weather
BMW Apps

MSRP: $58,945

Dealer wants $55,818 or $1k over invoice. Every other area dealer wants way too much.

Good deal?

Also, is HUD now full color for 2013 like F30?

Thanks in advance!

Have you seen invoice pricing from your dealer? I haven't seen invoice pricing anywhere yet. It looks like zag has removed invoice data from their website on the 2012 model and the 2013 data hasn't been loaded. Based on previous years info, markup is about 7% on the base unit and 9% on the options/packages. So my baseline for a good starting price would be 7% off MSRP. Anything lower than that is obviously better, but to say the price you received is $1000 over invoice is not something I'd believe to be true unless the dealer has shown you the invoice prices.

Invoice prices on the packages are mostly the same. The base price for the 35i invoice is $40,110 now and the premium package is less now at $2685 invoice. Those are the more significant ones.

OP they should be able to do better than 1000 over invoice. I'm sure without much of a fight they would half that if you made them the offer for a sure sale.

Looks like I'll have to go outside the area for invoice or slightly above pricing. I'm in the Philadelphia market. No dealer (Main Line/WG/Daniels/Thompson) wants to touch a '13 at less than $1000 over invoice.

I have never paid above invoice for a car in my life! That is why I wanted to see if others had the same experience with the '13 X3, or, if it was a local issue.

I guess it's time to expand the search!

Sometimes it pays to live in the midwest.

You might be able to run all around the country to save $500, but $1k over is a perfectly fair deal.

Try BMW of Freehold, NJ. Last Summer I shopped for a 2012 X3 by emails sent through dealer web sites of about 20 NY Metro dealers, including the three in NYC where I live, and three other dealers owned by the DCH group, the BMW of Freehold owner. BMW of Freehold was very agressive on price and I purchased from them. I made only two visits there, the first required to be eligible for the BMWNA coupon available in the Summer promotion and to check out the dealership, the second to pick up the X3 from their October allocation. I started with Maria Shouldice, the Business Development, ie Internet, Manager and finalized with Michael Monteleone, the Sales Manager. We did the entire transaction by email and telephone with no problems. Along the way, they assigned a CA, but he was not involved in the price and delivery discussion. It was the sixth BMW that I had purchased or leased from a NY Metro dealer during a 16-year period.

Based on this, the invoice for the base is ~7% below MSRP and the premium package is ~9% (2685/2950). And if invoice prices on the other packages are the same, then a straight 7% off MSRP doesn't make sense as the invoice price. Using the invoice pricing from bmwconfig my guess at the invoice price is around 54365 (I guessed an invoice price for the driver assist pkg @ 1915) So unless the invoice prices have changed on the other packages, then you're about 1450 over invoice at this point.

KingX, do you have the new invoice price for the base 28i you can share? Thanks.

I just placed an order from a dealer in IL (they have quite a few dealers there) while I am in Milwaukee and there are only 2.

For fairly simple configuration (usually markup lower):

2013 X3 xDrive28i
Mineral Silver Metallic paint (A14)
Premium Package (Oyster Leather LUCX, Brushed Aluminum Trim 4AD) ZPP
Cold Weather Package (ZCW)
Comfort Access Keyless Entry (322)
MSRP: $44,595 (including $895 destination)

Sale price: $41,450 + TTL

I haven't seen invoice prices, and I spent lots of time negotiating with multiple dealers and bouncing offers one of another, but generally it's $3,145 off MSRP or 7.1% or so which is probably right at or slightly below the invoice.

Doesn't seem to matter who I talk to. NY/NJ/PA dealers want $1000 to $1200 over invoice for April allocation.

Drives me insane knowing I'm going to pay over invoice. My E90 was $500 under invoice.

You could do a perfomance center delivery then and go with any dealer in the U.S who gives you the best pricing. If you do, Greg Poland out of So. Cal is supposed to be outstanding to work with and has gotten rave reviews. Have you tried Bobby Rahal BMW in Pittsburgh?

Not exactly realistic to expect to buy a new, hot selling, model for the same price(discount) as you paid for an outgoing "old" model.

Sorry, don't . I only have the invoice stuff for the version/packages I chose when I ordered my '13 35i.

The E90 wasn't outgoing when I purchased. The F30 was still a pipe dream with no prototypes even spotted yet. Further, if you search the forum, you'll see that most thought the F30 release would follow a 2012 (shortened model year) for the sedan in Summer '12. It obviously came earlier than expected.

The good news is I have a deal to purchase the above for $53,900 at a fairly local dealer! I'll post more info once we sign papers; however, so far this dealer is awesome! Glad I found them!

That sounds like an excellent price, ~8.5% off MSRP, and lower than what I figured invoice is! Please let us know how you worked your magic!

Price sounds good from the MSRP: $58,945 you listed before. Make sure they are including all the options/packages you listed. That price looks below invoice which seems unusual for a '13 at this stage unless you are using additional stuff like loyalty discounts etc. Some dealers don't pay attention 100% to what packages you want which leads to price differences.

King/BXM3W:

It's not unusual if you are persistent and play all of the dealers in a large market against each other. At the end of the day, one of them was going to get the sale. I have a VIR so I know they didn't miss anything; again, it just pays to be in a market with 10+ dealers.

This is pretty much a pass through deal for them. They only have to take the car out of transport mode, put gas in it, and do a PDI/PA Inspection. No wash, no detail, etc. (If you want to see why, search my username in the detailing thread).

Once I sign papers, i'll post the dealer and the CAs name. This was the first price they offered which makes them pretty easy to deal with (they knew I was a CCA member & enthusiast). Week 16 build.

$1000 isn't unreasonable, that is the deal we got. I saw elsewhere someone ordered one for $500 over wholesale.

Thanks for the input. Made the purchase today! Wife's X3 is on the way!

I have invoice (wholesale) pricing on many options if anyone is interested from the VIR. PM me and I can help.

Yeah it does makes it easier when there are more dealers to fight over a deal or a volume dealer. I was able to go below invoice as well even for such a limited amount of dealers in my area so I was happy about that at least.

Congrats on the purchase
