Weird Front Fog Light Behaviour

When I start the car in the mornings, I notice that I always a single front fog light on even though they are not on. The only way to turn it off is to switch lights off (from auto) then back on.

Anyone else noticed weird things with their fogs?

Yes some times there on and some times there off, both of them. There is no blue inducater on. Some thing I also think that is not carrect is the parking light indicater green light always on with the headlights. I say this because every other BMW I have or had doesn't do this. I am waiting for the service department to get more experiance on the new X3 before I take it to them.

Do you have the wheel turned? The fog lights will individually come on as cornering lights based on the steering input and time-of-day.

That's what I was thinking. Could be adaptive headlights if you have them

I read somewhere (I think the owners manual) that adaptive headlights point to the right when in park. And the fog light to the direction of the lights are turning comes on with adaptive lights. I bet if you put the car in drive and set the parking break the light will go out.

The fog lights act as cornering lights if you have the headlight dial set to automatic setting (left most). When you put your car into reverse while your low beams are on, both the fog light turn on. When you put it in drive/park, they turn off. When you turn on your indicator and turn your wheel, the fog light thy corresponds to that side lights up. I have noticed this on many other cars and most bmws. I saw that my X3 had this when my wife was pulling into and out of my driveway.

I still find this really hard to understand the point.. sad as I was, I sat once evening trying different things, turning on the fogs and off.. and when they come on on turn they are not as bright as normal fog lights.

I get a lot of cars flashing me when I am driving.. this could be down to the whiteness of the Xenon, or it could be the usual moany people moaning they see a fog on.

Wish you could turn it off without turning off auto lights.
