Radar Detector

Does anyone have any recommendations for a new RD? Currently looking at a Passport 8500 with the hardware kit.

I have a Passport 9500ix. Performance is good with very few false alarms. It also learns as you drive around. After encountering the same false alarm 3 times, it automatically locks out that GPS coordinate. It was a worthwhile upgrade to my old 8500.

Of course, the Passport Max is now the latest and greatest with a colour display and a faster CPU for quicker calculations giving the impression of longer range.

I have the 9500 as well. Its my first radar detector so I don't have a basis for comparison but I really like it. My only wish is it had the capability to show which direction the "threat" was coming from. I know the Valentine does this and at the time I bought mine, it seems superfluous. Now that I've actually lived with the detector (never having had one before) I can see how useful a function that would be.

That said...the auto locking out of bad signals trumps everything It makes life a lot easier...

Thanks for the feedback, are you all using the window suction kit or the mirror mount?

I bought an improved suction cup off Ebay that looks like a Garmin suction cup. I keep the detector mounted low so the wire is discrete.

I use the same mount. It's fairly large but has never once loosened on me. I have mine mounted right next the rear view mirror.

I have the same and I like it very much. Saved me many times. When I see "Ka" on the readout, I know it's for real. Never had a problem with it.

I would recommend the Passport Max. Yeah it's not cheap but it combines the sensitivity of the Escort Redline/Bel Magnum STi with the GPS features of the 9500ix. While the directional arrows on the Valentine One are a nice feature the sensitivity isn't as great when compared to the Max plus if you do a lot of city driving the false alerts while get annoying on the Valentine. I currently own 4 radar detectors and all of them are from Escort. I have a Solo 2, Passport 8500x50, 9500ix, and a Max.
