Rattle and Squeak from center console and artrest
Anyone have same problem?
Noise can be replicate easily by pressing the hinge area where the aluminum(or wood) trim meet the armrest. Feel like there is no padding under the aluminum cover and it's rubbing bare thin plastic. I fixed some minor dashboard creaks but this one is tough. Does anyone who got the brushed aluminum trim have same problem? |

I'm having a hard time understanding what part you're talking about. Maybe a photo of the place where you're hearing the rattle/squeak?

Gotcha. I've not experienced any noise from mine. It has two pads on the bottom of the armrest that touch the plastic piece you highlighted in the pic.

yeah I have the same problem and I have the brushed aluminum trim. Everytime I get in I lean on the center armrest and it creaks. It's not terrible but I I'd like to get rid of it myself. Maybe when I go in to the dealer I'll see what they say that can do.

It would be an easy fix. That trim piece on an X3 just pulls up from the back. Pull it up using a plastic pry tool and you can put a variety of things in there. They make a very thin adhesive felt tape that is used a variety of places on cars, but it can be hard to find locally. What I did is bought a piece of thin black flannel at a fabric store and a can of spray adhesive at Home Depot. I cut a piece I need, spray one side very lightly, and put it in place where it will be hidden when the trim is put back. It does two things - it cushions the friction point and creates an imperceptible gap between parts to reduce friction any place where you didn't put the cloth. Or you can try bicycle wax chain lube. It's a thin wax in a harmless solvent. Just let it weep into cracks and wipe off any excess with a cloth. I've used it a lot. Silicone spray does not work for long and often makes plastic squeaks worse.
