Serious Cyclist with 2012 X3 35i
I'm looking for an Interior bike rack that uses the X3 cargo rails. I've seen a few options on the internet including one person who created his own.
Do you folks know of any interior racks that will work with the new X3s? thx, tnt |

I was thinking of one as well. What I have done with other vehicles was taken a 2x4 and mounted a fork mount to it. I was going to do this for the x3 but noticed the roof line was too low and I think I would have had to remove the seat every time I put my road bike in. Didn't want the hassle had the hitch installed I think it's a good system so far. If you use the fork mount in the car you could use tie down straps to use with the hooks to secure the bike.

Yes, I am somewhat concerned about the roof height and don't want to remove the seat. The inside height is higher than the opening so I still have to measure my bike to see if it will sit upright once inside. The other option is to remove the front wheel, and lean bike on its side inside the cargo area. Not ideal but may be my only option.

My 55 cm road bikes fit perfect laying on their side without removing wheels. I just put a heavy duty moving blanket between them when I have more than one back there.

I plan on using a couple of these mounted to separate 2 X 4s. Taking out the seat post is no big deal.

Thanks everyone for the your replys. I knew I could lay the bike on it's side but was trying to mount upright with some sort of bike rack (i.e., fork support and rails) that mounted to the cargo rails. I found a post on another forum that illustrated how someone made a bike rack mount from hardware parts... I'll post this later today when I get home

terrytnt, he listed where he got the parts in the pdf attached to that posting.
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/attach...6&d=1307665003 The bars he ordered from 80/20 (http://www.8020.net/), the fork blocks he got from a bike shop and the elevator bolts and knobs he got from Lowes. I hope this is helpful. |

I too am a serious triathlete with my bike in the car during the spring and summer many times during the week.
I normally travel solo and when I do it is really quite simple: 1. i put down the seats 2. i take off the front wheel of by Time Trial bike 3. i put the bike in the car. That's it. I personally don't see the need for a bike rack. If multiple bikes are put in the back, just put a blanket over one of the bikes. That's just me ... |
