Trunk Lights - how to turn off
Hi there,
I was at a drive-in movie last night. The X3 proved to be a perfect car, as we folded down the back seats, opened the tailgate, and made almost a bed with pillows, blankets, and of course, snacks. The only thing that was a bit distracting were the two lights on the side of the trunk. While I was able to turn off all the other lights, these seemed to stay on (almost like they are courtesy lights to allow you to see). Does anyone know how to turn these off? |

If your talking about the welcome lights, you can turn them off via iDrive. Sorry if I can't provide any more information as I didn't receive my X3 yet.

They should eventually go off if the key is not in the slot. (Approx 20 min). However, the X3 does not have an ignition slot for the key so I couldn't say! I'm afraid you're just going to have to cover them up... Shame...
Or... Trick the car into thinking the boot is closed when it isn't. Find the button or switch or whatever that lets the car know it is shut and keep it held down or covered or something.

Actually, the engine was off with only the electrical still on for the radio so that we could hear the movie at the drive-in. They did not turn off. After a few hours, the electrical turned off, likely because the battery was nearly drained and it wanted to conserve enough energy to start the engine once we wanted to leave. Even when that happened, the side lights at the end of the trunk did NOT turn off. I would have thought they would, too. I think we will just have to cover them up somehow when we do the drive-in again

If it's that big of a deal, you can pop the two lights out in five seconds. Just use your fingernail to pry up one edge of the light, and then unplug it. Done. I've replaced my rear trunk lights with LED's, so I know how easy it is to do that
