new 3 series changes coming to X3?
my guess would be not until the refresh in 2 years but I will be pissed if some of the changes (like the seats) come after 2012 production ends in March. The Sport seats look great, especially with the color stitching (not sure about the dash color though, looks cheap in pictures).
would have loved to get those seats with the Vermillion Red exterior and they look more comfy than the X3 sport seats, maybe higher grade leather or just better seats (comfort seats?) |

I thought the same think about the seats...they look more comfortable than the X3's sport seats and the leather def. looks different. Some interior things look more expensive than the X, and a few other things look cheaper.

the new F30 3 series is pretty, looks like an amazing car, but I moved from 3 series to X3 for a few reasons, and none of that changes for m. 316d sounds like a great commuter car, too bad it will never see a US road.

could be a tough choice for me in 2 years when I trade in my C63, really want a M3 Sedan BUT if they have the new 335d engine with all wheel drive as an option, that fully loaded with a M sport package would be tough to resist, 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds, with close to 30 mpg, compared to a M3 with 0-60 in ~4.0 seconds and who knows maybe 20 mpg... Same thing might be happening to the X3 in a couple years, X3 35D vs X3M, less than 1 second difference 0-60, with the diesel costing $10K less and getting 50% better MPG... |

now the intro of an X3 35d would have me seriously considering trading in the 35i - but we'll cross that bridge if it ever happens in the US. hopefully not too soon.
Mako - C63 as in AMG Benz? My brother had an S63 (fortunately it was leased ) blue an engine at 10k miles lots and lots of problems with it - so much so it was reason #2 I didn't even step foot in an M-B dealer to look at a GLK (besides how ugly it is). When his lease ended he switched to a Cayenne Turbo.

Consider this: The previous generation X3 was inspired by the E46 platform, and although it received some minor updates over its lifecycle, nothing significant was changed. I would expect similar for the F25.
A LOT of money is invested to bring a model to market. The fewer changes made over the first few years, the better the chance of recovery and profit. The only way they would escalate an LCI would be abysmal sales, and that is not the case.

I have several first impressions of the F30, but I am also very aware that what we're seeing in photos in not necessarily the impact it would have in person. Such was with the E90, and also the F25 to many.
A couple of things that won't grow on me though, are the hood line cutting the front end up, and the ridiculous side badges that say "Modern, Sport, Luxury" - possibly the most retarded thing I've ever seen, and something that even KIA knows better than to do. The "Luxury" badge might as well say "Key Me".

The cut line for the hood where it meets the fascia is truly awful and looks like the bean counters made the decision on the basis of cost alone.
I also don't like the "wood" door handles that seem to have been squeezed out of a tube. Let's hope by the time the M3 comes out that they have fixed a couple of these things. |

Agree 100%, really cheapens the car, and so unnecessary. An easy fix, tho. It's also on the door sills, but that is out of sight, and not tacky like the side badges.

I'm not trying to bash the F30, after all I purchased the beta version of the E90 back in June '05 while the vast majority of the E46 camp was nitpicking it to death.... and some of these changes will present themselves better in person, other will simply grow on us. But I guess what nags at me is the direction BMW is taking with the marketing department getting more say than the design team... i.e. those ridiculous badges and the concept of "trim levels" at all.
But as tuco44 says, the badges are an easy fix (I would take the dental floss with me to take delivery - no way I'm going off the lot with that abomination on there). I saw the hoodline coming... it's been obvious that is the direction, and the minute I saw the new 5 with it I knew the F30 was doomed to have it as well. For me, it simply rips your eye away from an otherwise elegant design flow, and looks like an afterthought. However, the overall aggressiveness of the design could yeild one hell of a mean looking M3... if they can keep the KIA advisors away from it.

Some of the features on the F30 came from the F25 X3 (or more likely the F10 5 series)
Its not so much that the feature was designed for 1 model and moved to another - its that the F10 and F25 were updated for 2011 and the F30 is 2 years later -8sp automatic -engine start/stop - although not on the US X3 (wish it was avail) -electric power steering assist (some don't like this, looks like its on the F30) i'm sure others can ad to the list

To me the F30 looks a little disproportional. I think the front end looks smaller then the backend...(If that makes sense) |

The side badge I think they are following Mercedes's classic, avantgarde, and elegance badge on the side. Even Mercedes has stopped putting the line badges on the side. |
