Permanent live in front fusebox

Hi all,

Im trying to fit a power magic pro for my dashcam.

It needs to be in the front fuse box.

Ive found a live circuit which powers off as soon as you turn off the car.

However, Im struggling to find a permanent live.....almost all of the fuses stay live for around 30mins after the car is turned off.
Problem is, how on earth do I find a front fuse that stays live all the time? Not sure how Im going to do it other than weeks of trial and error.......

Unless anyone on here knows which front fuses offer a permanent live?

Thanks in advance.

Some who are looking for a permanently live connection use the power wire for the OBD-II socket.

Don't waste your time on the front fusebox. Use the one in the boot.

Garage List
You should be able to tap into a permanently live wire anywhere in the car that you can find one (you can use an in-line fuse)

I've got notes on BMW wiring that say

Ignition Switch
position 0 - off
position I - accessory
position II - on
position III - start

In general:
(test first with a multimeter just in case it's different for your model)

Ground
- Brown

Unfused wires
- a solid red wire is always live
- a solid green wire is live in positions II and III
- a solid violet wire is live in positions I, II and III

Fused wires
- a red wire with a stripe of any colour, is always live
- a green wire with a stripe of any colour is live in positions II and III
- a violet wire with a stripe of any colour is live in positions I, II and III

Thanks for the replies all...

I really need to run everything from the fuse box if at all possible.
Im going to try the OBD port tomorrow.

Thanks for the wiring info Perrygunn.....I will look at that tomorrow when trying the OBD port!

Hi mate, I used fuse 31 as an ignition live.
I think its for the seat heating.

terminal 30 and 30B in FEM should stay live all the time. I will check the location once I get home. What is exactly year/model is your car?

Its a 2016 model.
I used the OBD port fuse and it looks to have done the job!
Thanks anyway from a very cold, foggy Northern Scotland....
