X4 m40i gas mileage
Anyone else getting shit gas mileage with their m40i. I've ranged from as low as 11.5 to 15.5. Although I drove like a crazy person when I first got it, been driving more relaxed and still getting shitty mileage. Dealer says to wait until 1k miles (only has 300 right now), before can really evaluate. I'm coming from a diesel, so maybe I was just spoiled, but it seems like this thing is chugging gas a lot quicker than advertised

Hi BimmerNerdM40i,
I have already driven 20'000km. about 90% of the time in Sport Mode, as the sound of the engine is just gorgeous. At begining the worst drive I did with full tank was of just 400km. Now 500-550 is common. My best mileage was of 630km combined with comfort and eco drive at the end. But now it tends to consume less fuel. And with the 1st service and oil change, it will definitely consume less fuel. Speaking of oil, with 20'000km done, it is the second time that I need to add 1 liter of oil in the engine. Beside that, the car is great to drive. |

I'm getting the same numbers as the original poster and am at around the same number of clicks too so that would suggest this is normal.
These are the same numbers I was getting when I owned a Nissan Murano but for some odd reason, I don't seem to mind nearly as much, particularly when I put my foot down. |

Hey guys
Im at around 8000km now. I agree this car is really bad on gas for now. At around 350km the gas light usually comes on and now it is slowly getting better, I hope it will get better soon. I have done my own first oil change at 4000km (outside dealer) but not much significant differences there. Hopefully it will be like Sank-CH's soon

Though I have a smaller engine but have been getting very bad gas mileage. Then realized it's my driving style. I get abt 30 with my diesel but with this one I get abt 20-21. When my wife drives it jumps to 25-26mpg.

Mileage
After a recent 2400 mile, two segment trip, I averaged 24-26 miles per tank. I made the trip with stops only for gas and traffic. Now, this was a trip that was about 90% on Interstates, and 80% on cruise set between 78 and 85mph driving between 8AM and 2AM. On the second half 1200 mile stint, I averaged 72mph travelling from Mich to FL on I75 and thought that wasn't bad. During around town puttering I usually only get around 15. My 06 X3 3.0 with DINAN Stage 1 over 3 years averaged 17mpg with about 10% Interstate and the rest local roads.

1000 miles now and getting 19.7 MPG driving around town to/from work on Los Angeles streets. Mostly in Comfort mode, but occasionally in Sport. Still keeping RPM under 4,500.
Will be putting 800 miles on it this weekend - mostly freeway and will report back.

I am at 4700km and steadily get between 500 to 550 km on a tank, mostly driving City. As of now, I average 10,95 l/100km or 26 MPG (21,5 US MPG).
All KMs mostly done in Comfort, with about 20% done in Sport.

My car's lifetime average is about 12 L/100km. In the city, it seems to use as much fuel as my 335i xdrive used before I got the X4 M40i My 3 year average with the 335 was about 10... So it is not so bad IMHO. I don't really know how much it uses in city driving because it really depends a lot on the roads used, if you have to do a lot of stops for lights/ stop signs, and how you accelerate. I used to get around a little under 8 L/100km cruising on the highway with the 335xi, but on the highway the X4 gets around 10 cruising at that same speed (120km/h). Once you get past around 90 km/h it starts using more and more gas because it is not a very aerodynamic car, at least relative to the 3 series or any sedan really. GG |

Hi,
Since my last post, I did a reset of the L/km on my bord computer. I drove 13'000 km and made my 1st maintenance (oil change) last wednesday. During the 13'000 km, 95% (if not 99%) of my drives were done in sport mode. The board computer showed average of 10.7 Liters per 100 km. 2 days ago after the 1st oil change, I did a new reset of the board computer. 100% of the drives are in sport mode. It is still a bit too early to have a real average measure, but as excepted the consomption is lower than before. BC shows now 9.6 L/100 km. the only thing that has not reduced is the consomption of the car for oïl, I had to had again a liter last weekend. So 1 liter each 10'000km. car has now 33'000 km |
