Q5 vs. X3

Back in July of 2009 I took delivery of a Q5 Prestige SLine. At the time I felt it was the best Compact/Midsize Crossover on the market. I sold it about 10k miles later in December of 2009 to take delivery of my F07 550i GT. The F25 X3 is faster, handles better, I believe slightly larger interior wise. Instrument wise on the Q5 I do like how the Speed and NAV turn by turn instructions are displayed in the center of the gauge cluster negating the need for HUD, B & O sound system very clear throughout the range, and also the fact that the rear tail lamps are "FULL LED's" (come on BMW- really):roll eyes:

F25 owns the Q5 in all other areas - JMHO

I totally agree with you!!!! I was also looking at the Q5, but the interior is way too small for 6'6'' guy like me...

I fit perfectly in the F25 and that car is a beast on the road!!!

I'm really happy with my choice

I know what you mean I am 6'4" myself, so I am completely satisfied with the amount of room in the X3.

Have also owned both cars. Everything to do with driving (handling, engine, steering, suspension) is vastly better in the X3 but the Q5 was better built. Plus I think I prefer the styling of the Q but there are so many everywhere now that I'm a bit sick of seeing them (also one of the reasons I got rid of mine)

I too considered both and I am 6' 4" - the consensus is the same; X3 far superior in tech, engine, drive etc (and for me styling) but Q5 cabin is a higher grade.

I think the size differential between Q5 & 7 is too great, but the diff from X3 to 5 is more subtle

Good to know. I contemplated the Q5 because I thought the interior was much nicer but your feedback really helps...thank you.

looks r subjective, but i think the q5 looks better in and out... i'm prob going to dump my 328i in a year for a compact crossover and i'm curious to see how the q5 refresh (2013my and on) will be. The engine, EPS and auto tranny tuning are supposedly all improved.

Ideally, I'd get the Macan, but I don't think that will be out by late summer 2013.

X3's petrol engines are by far better than Audi's.

For diesel versions, once with the facelift, Audi released S Q5 TDI with the same power as X3 35d, but with a more aggressive style and a little better performances.... Curious to see now if BMW will release an M Performance version for X3 too

The price of Macan will be higher than X3's, but BMW will release its rival badged X4 !!!

Yep all F25's with technology/navigation do. I didn't personally realize it until I input an address for nav. guidance. I wasn't quite sure the F25 had it as the instrument panel is not the full (lower half of gauge pod) digital display version you get with some of the other "F" series cars (F01/F07/F12 etc)

Same here. I am 6'4" and was surprised at how comfortable I was in the new x3.

Q5 or x3

Had a q5 for three years sold it and bought the x3, didn't like the steering and the look, wheel diameter is to small. Sold it after six months. Now Volvo awd

Volvo is a good choise but if you do not like all this points on X - why did you buy the X3 - why did you not sit inside and ask the dealewr for a testdrive before ordering it

X3 is better in terms of performance but anyone knows that if you're wanting to get a performance car, neither is the best choice. Both cars have a very feminine shape thats why so many females love it. It's a big hit here in the Pacific Northwest for soccer moms.
Q7 looks like a round minivan. The closest shape to an SUV is an X5. But even an X5 is not a SUV because it doesn't have a low range.
