Parking Sensor question

Hi All, my X3 was equipped with Parking Senor and Top View Camera system.. My Question is "Is the parking sensor always on? or can it be on all the time ?" I know when I engage "R", the camera and sensor will auto on.... But if I drive forward and going into a "L" parking spot, the front sensor will not "on" unless I hit the Parking Sensor button....

For my other car - Benz C350, the front sensor is auto-on when I drive less than 20km,,, and will beep if I stop in front of traffic light and somebody walk across my car. Also, it help me when I drive front into a parking spot to gauge the distance between the front car..

Any suggestion ? or even coding ?

I was thinking the same thing. I know it will auto off when your above what is it 12mph or 20mph. Just got my coding cable and would like to see about doing this. Will update if I find any info.

I don't think that the always on is a good thing as it will also work when you are waiting at a traffic light or when you are in a cue. I think that's the reason why it is not always on

+1 Can't think of anything worse than this thing bleeping every time someone crosses the road behind or in front of your car in traffic, or simply when the car in front or behind you is within range.

You could please all camps by having an "always on" switch

The Beeping will only happen within 1ft of your bumper which is not that frequent...and btw all Benz is setup that way.... and i only need to turn it off when it become noise vs now I have to hit park sensor button when i need it... too many things to turn on when i just want to focus parking. I am not sure how often in Europe you park your car with "front in", but in North America, that's 90% chance and the front sensor can help u gauge the distance between the car in front ! If a car come with back bumper sensor only, it will Auto turn on with transmission in "R", why not Front Sensor if u driving in low speed (< 10km) ? I believe Lexus's setup is same as Benz and ONLY BMW is special

Btw,, can the Top View + Back View show same time on the screen (Spit Screen) ? I know infiniti cars can do that...

I like my X3 a lot and this is one thing makes me feel annoying,,,

We all pay $ for extra features to enjoy ! I wish it can read my mind and don't need driver to remember all those extra features, then need to hit all those buttons/idrive to use it.... BMW = Ultimate Driving Machine.

Yes I also found this a little strange, if anyone has found a way to have it on as default that would be great. I'd rather turn it of than on 😁

I think mine turn on automatically when below a certain speed and at standstill, it happens for instance at a red light, if a pedestrian gets too close to the car, it shows up on the display (both front and back), so I guess they do turn on or are on all the time.

I like it not on all the time as it can be a pain in Traffic, I don't always use the Auto parking having a on & off is better for me!!

If you have auto PDC…it is not hidden and can be activated/deactivated in iDrive.

This feature wasn’t on early build BMWS (like with CIC)…so if you don’t know if you have it or not…I highly suggest opening the iDrive owners manual and look up Park Distance Control. If you have Auto PDC…it will be mentioned and described. If you don’t have it…the iDrive version will not discuss it.

If you do have it…and it’s activated…the PDC sensors will automatically activate when moving forward at low speed. If you don’t have it then you’re relegated to turning it on manually by pressing the PDC button when needed.
