Android Auto retrofit to KIA cars

KIA has announced they will be retrofitting many of their models with Android Auto through a software update.

I wonder if BMW would ever do something like this for us?

I hate my BMW Infotainment system. Not even close to WAZE or Android Auto.

Now that Android runs on may CPU and hardware, this is not out of the possibility.

BMW would be smart to do this. Maybe BimmerTech can do it if they don't.

Interesting - dont know if that would work as the iDrive system is so integrated.. ?

Most systems, including idrive, need more than a simple download to get CarPlay or Android Auto.

I have not been able to find what the CPU and OS for base IDRIVE is.

It could be done, but BMW wants to own their ecosystem. Problem is they don't advance it very quickly. Example are Widgets. No new ones in a year.
